Nintendo job listing and patent explores possibility of multimedia streaming service

In a potential expansion beyond the gaming realm, Nintendo appears to be exploring the development of a multimedia streaming service. Recent findings, including a patent filed earlier this month and a revealing job ad, suggest that the Japanese company is venturing into the world of multimedia content. Nash Weedle brought attention to a recently filed patent focusing on the selection and ordering of streaming content. The patent outlines systems for indicating available content, tracking watched content, and more. While patents alone may not convey much, a job ad for a Software Engineer with expertise in Multimedia Technologies from Nintendo of America adds weight to the speculation. The engineer is expected to design and develop software supporting multimedia use cases, specifically tailored for massively used gaming consoles.

The timing aligns with the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, indicating that Nintendo may be preparing to offer more than just gaming on its next system. The mention of a “massively used” gaming console in the job ad suggests that the potential streaming service could extend to the current Nintendo Switch as well.

  1. Would be awesome if Nintendo started to use different ip’s for many different animated series and movies, I would watch a smash bros sitcom with family guy gags lol

  2. I’m pretty sure they are going to offer something more instead for Nintendo Switch 2 only honestly. I’m guessing things are going to be much different that we can possibly imagine for their s

Sickr, if you come across this article, delete my second comment. I didn’t even finish it and press post by accident. This third comment is finished.

    1. It’s also where I heard “The Rifle’s Spiral” by The Shins for the first time. It makes me think of “Float On” by Modest Mouse and “All Downhill From Here” by New Found Glory for some reason. 🤷

  4. Highly doubt Nintendo is about to do a Netflix. That would be mental and I’m sure they are not that stupid…I think we should be think more like the Pokemon channel and the old 3DS video service, with maybe a hint of Twitch.
A service with select content that’ll probably be a part of the Switch 2’s subscription service which will have some fun exclusive stuff to watch but main goal of it will be to promote games. Nothing really ambitious but just a new way for Nintendo to connect with their customers and try to sell us more stuff.

    1. It’ll be like a streaming service for gamers most likely like PS and Xbox have.
I could see them offering all their old shows and movies on a service also though and partnering with some smaller anime companies and devs as well. I would believe this would be added to the NSO online services though.
