SmallAnt, a dedicated player of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, embarked on a challenging quest to complete the game without utilizing key items. This endeavor, documented in a YouTube video, showcased the streamer’s determination to navigate Hyrule and conquer obstacles without relying on essential tools like the paraglider and the Purah Pad. As the adventure unfolded, SmallAnt faced increasing difficulty due to the restriction on abilities like Ultrahand, Ascend, and Fuse. However, the resourceful player utilized unconventional methods, such as well-placed bombs, speed potions, and exploiting the infinite height glitch, to overcome various challenges.
The climax of the journey occurred around the 6-hour mark when SmallAnt encountered a sealed door in the Temple of Time. To progress, the player needed a Heart Container, exchangeable for Light of Blessings at the nearby Goddess Statue. Unfortunately, obtaining the Heart Container involved using key items, leading to the realization that the challenge was insurmountable.

What a bummer! If only there was a way of getting past that section he could have tackled a huge amount of the game.
I will say though, this game is long enough without having to go about it in that way
So this “dedicated player” didn’t realize you can’t get past the first section without breaking his own rules? Seems pretty sus and like he wasn’t as clever as he thought.
These types of challenges exist precisely because of your way of thinking. The prospect of completing the game without using features that are perceived as absolutely required is what draws people into these challenges in the first place.
I’m sure with more time and research, this challenge could be found to be doable at some point.
Yeah I like these challenges for sure. I’ve done a few no sword Zelda runs and some Nuzlockes myself. Just saying how could SmallAnt not account for such an obvious roadblock. Will be cool if he could get around it and do the whole game one day!
Yeah I getcha. I don’t watch his stuff that often, but from what I do know of him I assume that he went into the challenge blindly. That would explain why it took him so long on the first island and why he wasn’t prepared enough to know a solution for the roadblock.
I hope this challenge gets beaten one day too!
That challenge sounded intense! It’s always fascinating to see how far creative players can push the limits of a game like Tears of the Kingdom. Might be a different world than Hyrule, but still all about strategy and numbers!
