Nintendo has announced this morning that the Nintendo Switch family of systems have now sold over 139.6 million units as of 31st December, 2023. The ultra-popular system continues to sell extremely well worldwide and sales don’t seem to be slowing down, despite a successor being rumoured to be on the near horizon. Nintendo also announced that they have sold over 1200.10 million units of software for the Nintendo Switch.

Unbelievable achievement.
I still think they could take the number 1 spot.
The only thing that would stop them now is releasing a successor to it, but Miyamoto said in 2017 Switch was planned to have a longer than normal (5-7 years) lifespan for Nintendo systems. This means 2025 would be when a successor could launch, but Nintendo could also do the Game Boy/DS/3DS route and create a Switch Pro.
Damn it…

With what Miyamoto said in 2017 with Switch having a longer lifespan than normal (5-7 years for Nintendo), this is on pace to set all records for hardware sales, because 7 years is the normal lifespan Miyamoto said it wouldn’t have. Don’t expect this thing to see a successor until at least 2025, if not longer if they pull a 3DS (New 3DS), DS (DSi), or Game Boy (Game Boy Color).
Nope. It’s happening this year.
