Analyst: “Nintendo is likely looking at a pretty dry pipeline this year,” after reports of Switch 2 Q1 2025 delay

Bloomberg is also reporting that it has heard from its sources that Nintendo has delayed the launch of the Switch 2 system until Q1 2025 to enable it to have a solid lineup of games. The news publication has also chatted with Tokyo-based analyst, Serkan Toto, who believes that the move will be a blow to Nintendo, which he says is “looking at a pretty dry pipeline this year.” This is because Nintendo is creating its big titles for the successor to the Nintendo Switch system.

“Nintendo is likely looking at a pretty dry pipeline this year,” Toto said. “The company will still try to keep the blockbusters for the next console, so 2024 might see more remakes of old Nintendo hits. In any case, 2024 will be a lot tougher for Nintendo without a new device.”

  1. If they drop Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD this year, I’ll be happy. I’d love new games, but to be honest they’re sitting on some golden remakes and ports they could do. TTYD I’m super, SUPER hyped for. Hopefully the latter half of 2024 has at least one heavy hitter

    1. Nah, it’d probably be Ocarina of Time HD. What would they even called it, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD: DX?

  2. To be honest, I’m fine with this, I’ve got way too much to play at the moment anyway, just bring to the switch ww and tp, and Metroid prime 1 and 2, hopefully silksong will come this year too🤞alls good.
I imagine if Nintendo can’t be ready for a pre Christmas launch then there takings are def gona be down if there’s no big hitters ( new games ), but everyone needs to live off a little fat now and then

  3. Smart move as Sony isn’t releasing exclusives until 2025. Now when they do release exclusives they have to release them along size the Switch 2. And worst part no one knows what the Switch 2 is capable of or what new feature it will take against Sony exclusives.

  4. That’s exactly what I think: a release for 2025 or even the end of 2025 is not that unrealistic; We know almost nothing about the upcoming games this year so hey…
The last big game on switch will most likely be metroid prime 4 and I won’t be surprised if it’s also on the next console at launch
I’m counting on a small announcement to start, maybe this year between March and June followed by a trailer on youtube and finally a global presentation in early 2025 before its release. It worked very well for them

    1. Late 2025 Is extremely unrealistic in my opinion. The switch will be 7 years old in just a few weeks. It will be 8 years old next march. The switch is ancient at this point from a tech point of view. I agree there is going to be a drought and unfortunately past history shows this doesn’t seem to bother Nintendo. I do think the stock will take a hit by not releasing before this holiday season. I also agree with Sofiona that it’s very possible Metroid Prime 4 might pull a Breath of the Wild and be a cross platform system.

On a personal note I am pretty pissed about having to wait possibly a year or more for the next system. 7 or 8 years is too long. I prefer the 5 year cycle. I have played all the great games and I have plenty of money to buy whatever is next.

      1. As much as I understand (and I approve) that 7 years for a console is a bit long I place myself from Nintendo’s point of view which, despite the age of the switch, continues to sell well and so they are faced with a dilemma, either abandon it abruptly as with the wii u to move on (but they deprive themselves of significant potential sales) or they wait for stocks to run out and It can be long and I’m leaning towards the second hypothesis

Let’s also not forget Furukawa-san’s words who said that the switch will have a lifespan of 10 years which can mean 2 things, either they will stop all support by 2027 (eshop, repair and switch online) or it means that the new console will arrive by 2027 but this hypothesis seems to me not very credible because NVIDIA has declared that it wants to stop the production of tegra X1 so…

  5. I love Nintendo, and I’m asuming this wil only be a slap to the wrist given how they’ve made enough money to be around until 2052.

With that said, I hope this opens Nintendo’s eyes when it comes to their recent decisions. Such as have having two of their most important mascots crossdress, rehash a Donkey Kong game for Wii U (as well as rehashing all of Wii Us good exclusives except Starfox Zero) instead of making a new DK game where you can play as Candy Kong, remove mega evolution and gigantamax forms without replacing it with a super mode system that isn’t a copout, remove shipping from fire emblem (i am refering to letting you chose who premade characters marry and not just the avatar/protagonist like every other dating sim), not waiting until the next system to make another splatoon game, a glorified limited time unlock service in Nintendo switch sports, dlc for mk8 delux to keep the switch alive with more tracks thats aren’t Wario stadium 64, and a plethora of rushed soulless indie garbage like c_lt of the lamb.

And don’t get me started on super smash bros ultimate.

  6. Didn’t people say this like last year, like there was games line up all the way to may, and everybody thought the last half of 2023 would be a drought/new console reveal and than we literally got multiple first party switch game reveals that were launching pretty close to each other.

  7. Jackson Bentley-Dyches

people online seriously do not appreciate how insanely stacked Nintendo’s 2023 was. you cannot expect every year to be jam-packed with brand-new, major 1st-party titles (much less so as the Switch gets older). I totally understand being excited for “the next thing” and speculating are just part of being a fan, but I wish people would act with more moderation and take more time to appreciate and digest each new title from Nintendo before rushing to the next one. I mean, we JUST had a new game drop yesterday, and it barely made any online discussion. Nintendo makes these games with a level of craftsmanship that most online people just don’t seem to really recognize, and as such they treat each game like a disposable product to be consumed and then move along to the next without even thinking about what they just did. It’s really disheartening.

    1. These same people who are panicking over a rumour about a console we know nothing about will calm down and buy the next thing as soon it gets released. I doubt anyone here will be like “damn i wish Nintendo released Switch 2 a year early, i’m never buying it!”. If the product is good then they will buy it regardless of the release date.

  8. Might be a tough year for gaming between this and Sony possibly not releasing any major 1st party games. We’ll see what Xbox has to offer.
