Warner Bros. looking to focus more on free-to-play and mobile, less volatile AAA

Warner Bros. Discovery gaming boss, J.B. Perrette, has informed attendees at a Morgan Stanley speaking event that the company intends to focus more on the free-to-play arena and games for iOS and Android rather than continue to produce numerous volatile AAA games. Game development costs have spiralled in recent years and a number of companies have felt the pinch. Warner Bros. also touched on the lack of success for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was clearly a commercial flop. Warner Bros will still produce AAA games, but they will contribute more of their efforts on the live-service, mobile, and free-to-play games spaces.

  1. So they’re going full Mobile scamming, good, they can stay away from console gaming if all they have to offer are Live Service trash games that spit on the past

  2. Hogwarts Legacy (Despite the JKR drama)

    Single player
    AAA
Gave the fans what they wanted
    Best game WB ever sold

    Scuicide Squad
    Always online 4 player Co-op
    Also AAA
    Micro transactions and Battle pass
Controversial choices made to a beloved universe (the Arkham games)
    Failed at Launch

“wOw nO oNE LiKeS tRiPpLE a gAmES aNYmORe!!!”

I’m really starting to dislike Zazlav especially after Coyote vs Acme

    1. “wOw nO oNE LiKeS tRiPpLE a gAmES aNYmORe!!!”

Is the sort of soft millenial quoting that will get you no support

      1. I’m referencing the thoughts of corporate heads. Sorry if I didn’t make that clear, but they’re idiots if they think AAA games can’t work. They just don’t want to try (without Microtransactions)

Hogwarts legacy is the counter example to Suicide squad

  3. Switching to a service based games isn’t gonna solve the problem of your games being trash.
This is still the same company that happily sought out sweet baby inc to influence their games and knowingly thought games like Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad were actually viable products to push into the market.
The devs who created the Arkham trilogy that everyone enjoyed left that company long before Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad went into production.
WB can go out of business and nobody will miss them, they don’t make good games anymore, period.

  4. They don’t want to put time and effort into making Meaningful Games and Art, they rather have Cheap Money Grab, Microtransaction, Battle Pass, Subscription Service titles, Then Ubisoft, EA, so many. If they put the work and love into games they’d succeed. Nintendo Games perform better than all those games and even with weaker specs and not being scummy and putting microtransactions and such

  5. Why don’t they make a Looney Tunes PvP game (similar to Crash Team Rumble) to revitalize interest in one of their most important IPs.

There’s already loads and loads of characters, with room for plenty of deep cuts.

    1. There is Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem for mobile, if you are looking for this experience. Not sure if they would release another one for consoles and pc or port to other platforms.

  6. Wild, crazy thought here: maybe focus less on free to play games, and actually give us solid single-player experiences like the Arkham trilogy or Hogwarts legacy, and you’d actually rake in more money.

    Just an idea

  7. “They will contribute more of their efforts on the live-service, mobile, and free-to-play games spaces”

    Sounds like a threat
