Renowned illustrator and animator Mutsumi Inomata, who was the main character designer for the popular Tales of series of video games, sadly passed away on the Sunday, 10th March aged 63. Inomata’s sister revealed the tragic news on social network X and posted the following message to fans:
“It happened so suddenly… There were even rough sketches left unfinished, but she must be drawing them now in heaven.
Surrounded by her beloved cats, she should be continuously creating characters with cute and strong eyes.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who loved and supported Mutsumi Inomata.
We sincerely hope for your continued love and support in the future, and hereby notify you with deep respect.
The funeral was held privately with close relatives only.
As per the deceased’s wishes, we respectfully decline any condolences, monetary gifts, offerings, floral tributes, or any other form of condolences.
We kindly ask for your understanding.”
A sad tale ending. R.I.P
Sadly as a Nintendo gamer, I haven’t gotten to experience many Tales Of games. But I did get to play Tales Of Symphonia on Gamecube. And I have to say it’s right up there as one of my favourite games ever. The character design was part of what made it so great. RIP Mutsumi Inomata, 63, that’s still so young, especially nowadays.
I would suggest getting a PS3 for cheap and Playing: Tales of Graces F, Tales Xillia 1 & 2, Zestiria, and Berseria. I would say even giving Tales of Symphonia Dawn of a new World a chance too (it’s not that great either, but it makes you appreciate Symphonia even more)

RIP man the older you get the more you realize how much older all the game designers, comic book writers or manga writers really are. A lot of them are in their 50s plus now.
