BAFTA releases player poll results of most iconic game characters of all-time

Mario in Super Mario Run for iOS and Android devices

In less than a week from now, on April 11th, The BAFTA Game Awards will be happening. This year also happens to be the 20th anniversary of it, so BAFTA is celebrating the occasion with a player poll of the most iconic game characters of all-time. The poll features engagement from 4,000 players all over the world.

The results of the poll were recently posted, via a top 20 list, and the results might interest you. 3 of the 20 characters are Nintendo characters, with Mario being the highest at #2. Link is at #7, and Pikachu is at #12. The character at the top spot, however, is none other than Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft. You can see the full top 20 list down below.

    1. It makes sense, BAFTA is British. So Lara being one isn’t surprising. Even link being that low isn’t surprising. What baffles me is scakboy being higher than Kratos or Master Chief. It shouldn’t though, since Media Molecule is British, but still. Kratos is supposed to be HUGE and who doesn’t know about Halo. Wether bad or good, every gamer knows about Master Chief.

      1. Yeah that sackboy british bias is too obvious since not even Sony themselves consider sackboy a “big” mascot nowadays.

  1. Lara Croft more iconic than super Mario??
Who the hell did they get to do this poll… a load of perverts or something.
Bizarre and sackboy rated higher than link, this list is hilarious

  2. 4000 participants from all over the world is a pitifully small sample size for finding out the “most iconic game characters of all-time”, lol

  3. Well, Lara is created by Core Design, which is British. And from what I gather Playstation is really strong in UK, which explains things as Sackboy over Link etc, and Lara as a semi-PS icon with a recent remake collection nowadays makes sense why she is at the top; and it’s proven that recency bias is on that list when you see Astarion on there (not bashing the character, he is great).

Also, Agent 47, though made by Danish IO, was published by British Eidos. Makes sense why he is there as well.

  4. I guess those 4,000 people just really like Lara Croft, Agent 47, and Sackboy, because none of those characters should ever be in the top 5. Also Baldur’s gate… really? It says all-time.

  5. That list is a joke. How did they dare publish it?!
We’ll let Lara at being at no.1 slide, but agent 47? at No.3?! I don’t even know who that is!
Of course it’s only based on who voted, and god knows who that was. But even so, what a load of crap.
