The Game Awards is not the only place to go to for year-end gaming accolades. Many other gaming media outlets will do a similar thing. For example, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, or BAFTA for short, confirmed the nominees for their Game of The Year award.
What makes BAFTA’s awards different from other media outlets is that the picks are chosen by game developers. This year’s nominees include 2 first-party games that were released by Nintendo. It won’t be until April 11th, however, that a winner will be chosen. For now, you can see the nominees down below.
- Alan Wake 2
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- COCOON
- DAVE THE DIVER
- DREDGE
- Hogwarts Legacy
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Tears of the Kingdom did not “place at #7”; the list is presented in alphabetical order.

The winner won’t actually be determined until April, as your own source states.
Thanks for letting me know. I’m not sure why that information isn’t at the top of the page, but that was an oversight on my part nevertheless. The error has been fixed. My bad!
Finally! I thought Cocoon would get snubbed for game of the year by everyone. It absolutely deserves to be a game of the year nominee. I can always count on BAFTA.
So many incredible games, but I’d probably vote for Zelda. Probably. Very hard choice, though.
