SEGA: Sonic x Shadow Generations PS versions contain long version of prologue animation “Dark Beginnings”

SEGA has confirmed that players who purchase Sonic x Shadow Generations on either PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 will get an extended prologue animation which is titled Dark Beginnings. Sadly, this extended animation won’t be available on the Nintendo Switch or Xbox Series X|S versions of the game. SEGA says that Dark Beginnings will be an exclusive bonus DLC for PlayStation owners. Here’s what was said:

“The PS4/PS5 version will include a long version of the upcoming prologue animation “Dark Beginnings” as an exclusive bonus. It will be available as DLC.”

“Stay tuned for more bonus footage, including previously unreleased cutscenes depicting the prequel leading up to “Shadow Generations”

Prologue animation “Dark Beginnings”:
The past and the present collide beyond time and space.
The past and the present collide beyond time and space.
Shadow” is shaken by a disturbing omen.
The battle to pursue the truth begins now.

  1. One of the dumbest decisions to make since seeing the sonic origins preorder bonus list, oh well all cutscenes are gonna get straight rip to YouTube so I’ll watch it there.

    1. Same here. I knew this whole thing is going to be disappointed and be blow right in our faces since it won’t be in the Switch version whatever the reasons they have.

    2. There is no way that we have to pay for FUCKING STORY CUTSCENES now, to the point that we have to basically pirate it on YouTube to see it instead of being included in the base game. The absolute state of Sega right now

    1. Oh yeaaaaaaaah you are right, you know what I think every company should sell their cutscenes as dlc, yes I want an unfinished super Mario game where I have to open YouTube everytime Mario kills bowser

  2. The prologue animation sounds like how Knuckles had his own animation for Frontiers. I’m not sure why this would be exclusive to the PS version of the game, but I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.

    Still odd overall though.

  3. Now this is just unreasonable. Sony wants more content? Make it. Why try and eek out a win with something minor like this that only upsets fans and tries to steal from the experience on other platforms.

Shameful display from Sega, embarrassing for Sony as well.

  4. What sense does this make? It’s a freaking video. Wow what exclusivity.

Next sonic game: the Nintendo switch 2 has all the cutscenes but the other platforms only get half of them!!! This is like 90s SEGA:
making the best and worst decisions ever in gaming.

  5. For a game that wasn’t on a Nintendo (Mario) console when it debuted, this is a dick move!

Meanwhile, PS owners are only buying the game again for the Shadow portion of the game. Makes to whole thing feel moot.

At this point, the “Year of Shadow” is nothing more than a direct promote from that Shadow teaser at the end of Paramount’s Sonic 2.
