Bloomberg video game journalist Jason Schreier has published an interesting article looking at various high profile video game leakers and naturally one of those is Pyoro. Pyoro has in the past been a thorn in Nintendo’s backside with his accurate leaks of Nintendo games ahead of Nintendo Direct presentations. Though he was unusually quiet in the run up to the latest Nintendo Direct, only teasing a few smaller games and saying that he “didn’t expect many big announcements.” This was proven factually wrong after the Nintendo Direct presentation which included a number of heavy hitters scheduled for this year and beyond. Speaking to Jason, Pyoro says that his information source is a Nintendo of Japan employee who seemingly has access to the company’s web backend. Here’s what was said in the article:
“Nobody knew Pyoro’s identity or how they got information, but as the account continued to predict new announcements with a perfect track record, they attracted a huge audience. The account gained more than 100,000 followers on X and inspired a series of threads on the large, gaming forum ResetEra.
But Pyoro was uncharacteristically quiet ahead of this week’s Nintendo Direct, saying that they didn’t expect many big announcements. They were subsequently proven wrong when the company showed off new Mario, Zelda and Metroid games. People wondered: how could an account with a perfect batting average suddenly get things so wrong?
Then came a twist. Several observers — led by a ResetEra poster called dgamemaster — began to realize that in contrast to previous announcements, these new surprises did not have pre-seeded webpages on Nintendo’s store. They followed the bread crumbs and realized that Pyoro’s previous leaks had all involved games that were set to go live on Nintendo’s website as soon as they were announced. Games that were only put up on the store after the Nintendo Direct were not leaked by Pyoro in advance.
It appeared that Pyoro had access to Nintendo’s web backend, and the account’s information was limited to what was available there.
I reached out to Pyoro to try to get clarity on this. Over direct messages, they told me that their source works for Nintendo of Japan, “but I’m unsure how they obtain their information” and that the “backend theory is a reasonable guess.”
Pyoro is just the latest mysterious rumormonger to get knocked off a pedestal in recent weeks.”

As a 40 year Nintendo fan. This is filth and trashy. Get it the fuck out of here!!! There’s no room in this community for leakers that put this kinda trash out there in the public for everyone to see. I hope Nintendo goes after him.

That should certainly narrow down Nintendo’s search for the source of those leaks.

He said it wasn’t that. The “game” they leaked wasn’t even first party. From everything that was shown the closest thing I saw to that was the hello kitty island to which I doubt a Nintendo Japan employee told him that lol
I wasnt impressed by the Nintendo Direct because I still believe there is more info Nintendo as not mentioned in regards to This Oct/Nov Window of games coming out. Drumming up hype for games and as many as they mentioned it seems to awfully familiar. I personally dont want to buy games for the Nintendo Switch but would rather buy games for its successor given how close we have to be getting to its release. I am concerned that what we have seen games-wise is for this future successor and when they announce it then maybe we will see where these games will reside on and that they are not going to be last gen/next gen variants to these games. I refuse to buy upgrades and/or repurchase games. Just get it over with and stop playing around with announcing the new system as I am tired of my switch and its joycon issues and length of time loading and downloading games because of its older hardware it has.
I’m going to put this to you straight, Anthony — the only games that could even be classified as “familiar” during this direct include the newly announced Donkey Kong Country Returns port and the Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon remaster. And if you want to get technical, Prime 4 & the DQ3 remake (which haven’t even been heard from since 2017 & 2020 respectively).
Everything else was entirely announced this direct. Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection (an ON THE DOT YEAR-END RELEASE, by the way), Ace Attorney Investigations, and Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom just to name a few. I can understand why you weren’t impressed by the direct due to lack of information, but at least give some of these upcoming games a chance.
Given that the hit Pyoro did get was for Ace Attorney (which then went up for pre-order on the eShop) can we assume that that one did get “pre-seeded”?
the “big hitters” you mention are spin offs. the mario one looks like a cancelled 3DS game. metroid was announced awhile ago so not news.
I will give Pyoro credit though. I thought I never had to worry about another no good Mario & Sonic at the olympic games title until I saw a thumbnail for a (now taken down) post. Thanks to them, I was relieved when it didn’t come true.
Good to see these leakers starting to fall. The “leaker culture” did a lot of damage to gaming overall, yet people seem to idolize them. The more of them falling, the better.
Thank god we can go back to watching more of these directs going in blind. It’s the leakers own fault that they have been making so many mistakes and getting caught because of it.
