A Japanese site which is has been reliable with leaked information is reporting that the forthcoming Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake will do away with male and female titled appearances and will instead opt for Appearance A and Appearance B. The site reports that voice actors Nobuyuki Hiyama will be voicing the Appearance A character and Yuko Minaguchi will be voicing the Appearance B character. The Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake launches on multiple platforms including the Nintendo Switch on 14th November.
The “Look A” heroes will be played by Shuyuki Hiyama, and the “Look B” heroes by Yuko Minaguchi. The “Looks A/B” designations suggest that the “male” and “female” occupational gender categories have been abolished, and that the design has instead been changed to a format in which the user chooses his or her favorite design from two different looks.

Otherwise, I can guarantee it’s just a decision meant to make them look good without putting in any actual effort at all.

I have to admit it’s a pretty meaningless decision. They had the same thing for Harvestella and it was still a very mediocre game. Game developers need to be firm on there vision regardless of outside influences.

I’m non-binary. Do I like having the option sometimes to to choose my actual identity? Fucking duh. Everyone does. Do I want it to be shoe horned in to a classic game I love? Absolutely not. It’s pointless. I have no issue choosing a male or female character in any game. No one asked them to do this. Usually I would say it’s the thought that counts, but now I’m going to have a bunch of 4chan losers blaming me and my community for a bunch of shit we didn’t ask for. New games built with that in mind? Absolutely. Love it. I’ll take it where I can, and not really care when it isn’t there.
