Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble to get new modes, stages, and characters later this year

Despite over a month having passed since its release, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble has kept the ball rolling and the content coming. A new multiplayer stage was added recently, along with the SEGA Pass DLC characters of Tails, Knuckles, and Amy from the Sonic The Hedgehog series- and now SEGA has announced that the rumble is just getting started. The official X page for Super Monkey Ball shared the news through a content update roadmap that can be seen below:

September will see a free multiplayer mode added to the game, along with the paid DLC characters of Axel and Beat plus the SEGA Costume Pack. Then later on, before the end of the year, we’ll get additional multiplayer modes and stages for free, as well as more characters.

As for who these characters will be is anyone’s guess, but it is worth noting that the previous game, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, had Hello Kitty, Suezo from Monster Rancher, and Morgana from Persona 5 as paid DLC before their listings were taken down. Kazuma Kiryu from Yakuza also joined the Banana Mania gang as free DLC, yet he remains unaccounted for in Banana Rumble. Other candidates could be another Sonic character- to coincide with the release of the third Sonic movie in December- or perhaps someone else from SEGA’s wide range of IPs. Either way, the absence of a “free” label over the additional characters box suggests that they will be available as paid DLC, likely in a second SEGA Pass.

  1. I’m going to need these companies to start releasing full games instead of half the game and then DLC, Passes and adding everything later. Unless they want to price down the games.

    1. This was absolutely a full game upon release. It had the most amount of stages of any brand new Monkey Ball game.

    2. Yeah please don’t comment on the game if you haven’t played it. These are all supplemental items for the game that aren’t needed. But are heavily appreciated. The game is fully cooked and we’re getting leftovers? Keep it coming Sega.
