Sonic Team boss says he would be interested in exploring ‘Evil Shadow’

Polygon recently caught up with Shadow the Hedgehog creator and the head of the Sonic Team, Takashi Iizuka, to talk to him about all things Shadow. At the end of the interview, Iizuka was asked which areas of the character he would like to explore in the future. He replied by saying that “maybe in the future it’ll be interesting to come back and revisit Shadow being not so nice, maybe even as far as evil.” You will be able to play a batch of new Shadow the Hedgehog themed levels in the upcoming Sonic x Shadow Generations.

“As we wrapped up our interview, I asked Shadow the Hedgehog’s dad about areas of the character he’d like to explore in the future. “In Sonic Adventure 2, if you go through all the different stories, you have probably run into Shadow getting revenge on the entire world and being… pretty much evil,” Iizuka said. “And ever since Sonic Adventure 2, we haven’t really explored that ‘Evil Shadow’ presentation of the character. He’s always been on a different kind of spectrum. But maybe in the future it’ll be interesting to come back and revisit Shadow being not so nice, maybe even as far as evil, as far as the other characters may see him.”

  1. Oh my god I’m so tired of hearing about this piece of garbage edgelord bait.
It genuinely baffles me how people are capable of taking the Sonic franchise seriously when about 80% of its games are terrible and it has characters like Shadow who feel like they’re ripped straight out of a 10-year old’s edgy fanfiction.
It’s not even a Nintendo franchise, why is it featured so heavily on this website? Have you run out of relevant things to post or something?

  2. You had your chance with that in 2005. The best we can hope for is a rewrite of that game (featuring the “evil Shadow” from a dark timeline”), following the re-introduction of Mephiles, where he takes over the husk that was once “evil Shadow”.

  3. Why? The only reason he was evil was a sense of vengeance, and without that he’s not evil. An antihero at best, but no motives to do bad. Iizuks must be growing senile.

  4. First he says Shadow is not like Vegeta, now he basically wants Shadow to go back to his “evil” ways when there is no legit good reason to do so.
Iizuka is just being more and more silly (to put it mildly).

  5. I welcome the news that Sonic Team is toying with the idea of a making a ‘darker’ game with ‘Evil Shadow’ would be a welcome change on the series! As much as ideas are created and developed over time, the same applies with the search for the best best uk assignment writers which goes a long way in making a student achieve his or her goals in the academic world.

  6. The key phrasing is that he would be evil from the other characters perspectives. There is a ton of unexplored Black Arms lore and Shadow is basically next in line to lead them. Shadow taking control of the Black Arms for the greater good would be seen as evil in the game world.

    1. You have to ask @Sickr in the ‘Contact & News Tips’ page about that. He’s like the sole member (far as I’m aware) handling this site.
