Rumour: Switch 2 images and specs leak (3 updates)

Update 3: NecroLipe Brazil has now claimed that the Switch 2 leak is legit.

Update 2: The leaked PCB has “X6” printed on it which matches the code for an earlier Switch 2 prototype.

Update: VGC says that these leaked Switch 2 images lineup with the final design Nintendo partners were shown:

“While the images are unverified, one source, who has not seen the final ‘ Switch 2’ console but has been briefed on Nintendo’s plans, told VGC that the Reddit images match what the company has told partners to expect from its design.”

Original post: A post has been published on a Chinese forum which allegedly reveals the Switch 2 via production photos and mock ups along with specifications which match those of the shipping manifest leak from several months ago. Take this as you will at present as it is hard to verify the information. Here’s what has appeared online so far:

  1. Maybe true but most likely fake. The fact it looks like it could be a 3D print, like someone did with the “NX”, leads to that conclusion. Would be surprised if it was quite so similar to the original design but does look pretty sleek tbf

  2. If real, looks like they’ve removed the IR reader from the bottom of the right hand Joy-Con? Which would leave a handful of Switch games somewhat incompatible.

  3. I’ll wait till Nintendo finally reveals it before believing in this one, might be a real thing or might just be another fake.
If it’s real, glad Nintendo went with a better latching system and used the OLED’s stand design, but sad that it’s clearly going to have yet more digital triggers

    1. If you want to cling onto a thread of hope on analogue triggers maybe there’ll be a new Pro Controller and that will have analogue triggers. Unlikely I know, but not 100% impossible!

I guess the bigger thread of hope is that this is just fake though haha

  4. If this is real, this one doesn’t have the openings at the sides of the console to put the joycons like a rail, the new joycons might be using a magnet, like a rumor said.

  5. Eh… I’m skeptical. While Nintendo could definitely get away with just making a sleeker, more powerful Switch as the successor… I can’t see them NOT adding some sort of new little feature to the system (that will ultimately be inconsequential to most software released for it).

    1. the gimmick is probably something we can’t tell through the console’s appearance. if we knew nothing about the 3ds and saw a textureless CAD model of it, i highly doubt anyone would predict that it played games and video in 3D.

  6. There is no way, shape, or form that Nintendo could keep the device so secure from leaks for so long just to botch it up this bad at the end. While some of what these leaks show might wind up in the final product, THESE “particular” pictures and leaks are fakes.

    1. factory leaks like this are real almost all of the time. the switch lite was leaked this way, the ps5 slim was, and the abomination that is the digital series x was. i see this as no different from those.

  7. The amount of usable memory will make or break the AAA third party support for Switch 2. Hope it will be 12GB of LPDDR5X at the very least.

          1. Sickr, the reddit source of the leak update the post saying: “The CAD renders may not be legitimate. It wasn’t stated that the renders were mockups, however the original poster was a 3D modeling enthusiast, so it’s a possibility that should be considered. Nevertheless, the two photos depicting actual hardware are likely real.”

          1. Aw man, I remember those days. Especially the gif of Little Mac’s face over the Shulk render- man, I miss being hyped for speculation like that. The ESRB leak will forever be a pure nostalgic memory for me

  8. It’s obvious that it’s a fake… Nintendo would never leak images of their new console to anyone…
And for the last time: it is unlikely, if not impossible, that Nintendo will release a new machine identical in design to the previous machine

    1. ”Nintendo would never leak images of their new console to anyone” I uhh…. i don’t think you know what a leak is brother…

      1. Already I am a woman ^^ then, publishers/developers and even more manufacturers are subject to non-disclosure rules so it is very unlikely that Nintendo would have let anyone take photos or take data on their machine…

        1. y-yeah but a leak is when someone LEAKS info by sneaking out some info without permission, THAT IS A LEAK. of course they put rules to not take photos or share data. OTHERWISE IT WOULD BE PUBLIC INFO SHARED BY THE COMPANY. If you put a sign on the park that says ”don’t step on the grass” doesn’t mean that everyone will follow that rule. (also sorry for the misgender i guess my bad)

          1. Leak or not, Nintendo is known to fiercely keep its secrets and you have no idea what a leaker risks especially if it comes from a partner of Nintendo…

And I add that we already had “leaks” on a so-called switch pro and result? Nothing! Just the oled switch that doesn’t add anything except an OLED screen and more storage spaces…
And the leakers said what “yes but Nintendo had the switch pro ready “blah blah yes…You can see that they don’t know anything about production and how expensive it is to abandon a project, especially if it’s ready!

For me all this is just a fantasy, strangely it looks like a switch, inevitably, it is called “Switch 2” while those who know Nintendo know that they will not make an identical console again or they have not understood anything of their mistakes with the 3Ds or the Wii u…

              1. fr the 3ds was NOT a mistake, as a matter of fact it’s what kept nintendo from going out of business in their darkest time.

  9. looks fake unless they want another wiiU situation where no one sees the need to get one and their stock tanks and the company does a massibe buyback and then releases the real successor with slate of Deluxe Switch 2 remakes (not backwards compatible obviously they need to resell us all the games again)

    1. the wii u failed because nobody knew what it was, not the fact that they didn’t see the need to get one. nintendo switch 2 is a much more definitive name to give a sequel.

    1. it is. X6 was a name provided in shipping data back in like may, more recent shipping data mentions an “X8”. i still think that this prototype is close to the final product, given that it was being thrown around 4 months before what we think is actual mass production

    1. I was thinking something like the Legion Go has where you can charge it from the top so when you have it on the kickstand, you don’t have to awkwardly prop it up on something.

  10. If it’s real then, ahem let’s see some games running on the thing, can’t wait to see Mario. If it’s fake, then you just wasted a good portion of your life investing your excitement in a nice sweet little cooked up lie 😂

  11. Tentri‘s half brother

This looks like hot garbage. I hope the next Nintendo console is not a Switch 2. Sigh. I wanted something NEW.

  12. Looks like the Steamdeck might still outperform it based on the memory specs. With a 2 x 6GB setup at 7500MT, that’s just 60GB/s of memory bandwidth. That’s 32% less than the Steamdeck’s 88GB/s and 4GB less memory overall. Or you can say the Steamdeck has 47% more bandwidth and 33% more memory.

That makes sense if it’s targeting a lower price point and DLSS can make up for it to some extent but that’s still pretty low. For anyother frame of reference, the Xbox One’s slower memory pool was 68GB/s and that was just meant for the CPU to use and for textures and geometry to be read from it.
