Big budget Avatar game in development for consoles and PC

Fans of the engrossing Avatar: The Last Airbender series should have something to celebrate this evening as it has emerged that Saber Interactive and Paramount Game Studios have linked up to create a AAA Avatar video game. IGN reports that the game is still early in development and is planned for both consoles and PC and it is described to the publication as “the biggest video game in franchise history.” The game will put players in the shoes of an “all-new, never-before-seen Avatar” and is set in the same universe as Avatar: The Last Airbender. Let’s hope the game lives up to its potential.

“We know loyal fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender have been eager for more stories that bring them into the universe of the show, and through gaming, we’re able to expand the world-building and allow fans to experience the new content in a completely immersive way,” said Doug Rosen, SVP, Games and Emerging Media at Paramount. “Saber Interactive has a proven track record in bringing IP-based games to life, and we are excited to co-fund this AAA title alongside them and let fans experience this world first-hand.”

“At Saber, we are all truly fans of the IP we work with,” said Josh Austin, Head of IP Development & Licensing, Saber Interactive. “Our team members are some of the most devoted, passionate creatives out there and it’s an honor to join forces with Avatar Studios and Paramount Games to further expand the Avatar Legends universe in video games. This unique co-fund structure is a result of our ever-expanding collaboration with Paramount, which started over a decade ago with WWZ, and we’re excited for all that’s on the horizon.”

  1. I feel like Nickelodeon has been in a crusade to destroy any good will ever had for this show.
On top of Korra being just an underwhelming mess there have been mediocre sequel comics and terrible adaptations and just last year they published a terrible game from this license so I expect nothing from this.

  2. God I hope this does tread familiar territory. I want Avatar stories that aren’t just the versions of Aang and Korra. Let’s get an adventure of a different avatar or a story of a more mature Aang. I’ve always felt like there was a lot of untapped potential for more exploration of this universe

  3. I don’t know how they will pull off a triple A Last Bender game but good luck with that, maybe I’ll play it despite not being a fan of the series.
