This year hasn’t proved to be a great year for new video game releases in Europe as the year end charts have come through and there were only three new video games in the Top Ten with the rest of the games being part of major series like Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and FIFA etc. Some long-awaited games failed to even make the top ten at the end of 2024 and ended up outside the Top 30 such as Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Star Wars Outlaws and Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

That’s what you get when most new games or at least western ones are games no one but maybe the devs want to play. I’m sure there’s plenty of people in these company’s who know they taking part in making trash but are too scared to say anything.
It seems like there’s not many diverse gamers in EU and most stick with what they are comfortable with.

Now, of course many corporations don’t know how to employ diversity into their games in a tactful way because they’re soulless, but there’s nothing inherent about diversity, equality or inclusion that leads to bad writing. There is of course a sect of gamers who simply hate DEI simply because they hate the minorities that they promote (I have no idea if that’s you, but those people exist) but those are just a vocal minority so can (and should) be safely ignored.
The reasons for the current struggle of AAA companies are literally nothing to do with DEI. They are everything to do with lazy trend-chasing, super-long dev times due to unrealistic increasing consumer expectation on AAA games, and a marketplace that has decided actually we’ll just buy Minecraft, Stardew Valley and Balatro all for less than the price of a single AAA game rather than buy the AAA game (not those specific games exactly, but just you can get a bunch of beloved indie games cheaper than one AAA game is the point)
