Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is being developed by an “elite SEGA racing game team”

The developers behind the recently announced Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds have yet to be announced. Sumo Digital, the developers behind the original Sonic Racing games, are not working on the new project. The UK-based company said in a post on X that “in the meantime, reminisce with us on our memories of working with SEGA on Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing” Hardlight was then seemingly the next bet by Sonic fans for developing the new project. However, a few tweets from SEGA imply that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is being developed by an “elite” internal team which specialise in SEGA racing games. Reddit user Jasonvsfreddyvs surmises that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is most likely being developed by former members of SEGA AM2 (Out Run, Daytona USA) and SEGA AM3 (SEGA Rally, Crazy Taxi). Hopefully we won’t have to wait long to find out exactly who the developers behind the project are.

  1. All of SEGA’s racing games have an arcade-like sense of fun to them. I have no doubt that this game will be fun to play too- I’m just curious if it’ll have crossover characters like the All-Stars games did

  2. Hey, people said it was terrible for Sonic Superstars to release around the same time as Mario Wonder. Will this same thing happen with this game and MK9?

  3. This article is misinformation. Sumo Digital’s tweet doesn’t mean they are not the developers. I ask that youu please correct this. The “elite Sega racing team” is just one possible translation, and this has been known for a long, long time.

  4. We should keep in mind that this news is technically only a rumor so far.

Still, IF this is valid info, then its very cool that devs behind some of Sega’s most greatest racing games are involved.

  5. Again Mr. Sickr
This article is misinformation. Sumo Digital’s tweet doesn’t mean they are not the developers. Nothing has been confirmed or deconfirmed about their involvement.

IF ANYTHING, “elite SEGA racing team” DECONFIRMS hardlight because they have only made mobile

  6. Sonic fans have been waiting for a fresh racing title since the last ones wrapped up. Hearing it’s in the hands of SEGA’s dedicated internal racing team has me genuinely excited—hoping they bring that classic high-speed energy back with modern polish. Grew up racing through Sonic & All-Stars on older consoles; the tracks and power-ups were addictive. If this new one captures even half that vibe, it’ll be worth the wait. Lately I’ve been playing more on PC via Epic, and when login or download snags hit, the Epic Games customer service contacts on https://epic-games.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html point to quick options like the help center. Fingers crossed Crossworlds delivers!
