Gold Points were an excellent reason for consumers to purchase digital games on the Nintendo Switch, offering consumers the opportunity to redeem them for discounts against digital video games on the Nintendo eShop. Nintendo has now announced that the Gold Point scheme is being doing away with on 24th March, 2025 meaning it will no longer be possible to earn Gold Points when purchasing digital content.
Gold Points will still be earned after that time in the following scenarios:
- When you have pre-ordered digital content before 9:30 PM PDT on March 24, 2025. Any pre-orders for digital content made before 9:30 PM PDT on March 24, 2025 will earn Gold Points, even if the payment will be processed later. Gold Points for these pre-orders will be awarded by the day after the payment is processed.
- When you purchase a physical version of a game released on or before March 24, 2025. Physical versions of games that were released on or before March 24, 2025 are still eligible to earn Gold Points, even if the game is purchased after March 24, 2025. Note that Gold Points can only be earned for physical games within one year of the game’s original release date, and physical versions of games released after March 24, 2025 will not qualify for Gold Points.
Gold Points can be earned on purchases made at the Nintendo New York store through March 24, 2025. We thank you for supporting the My Nintendo Rewards program, and hope you will continue to enjoy the other features of the program.

Dude…. this is not a good thing, in any way.
First anti-consumer move before the Nintendo Switch 2 direct. Already not liking this 😆
The E Shop had one good thing ONE, it is now by far the worst digital game store ever and it’s not even close.
Slow to navigate, unregulated meaning that any tech bro can pump their ai slop games no problem and they have done so, cause the shop is filled to the brim with abominations and by far the most anti consumer store ever. Nintendo games no matter how old never get good deals and the only good feature that could have saved you some Pennies is soon gone.
So that…I’m disappointed, that was really the point of the eshop for me!
I bet Gold Points was an Iwata idea. Seemed to be something he would have done.
he was way too kind for running a megacorporation.
He was the right guy for the job. Too bad he isn’t here anymore <\3
Ninturdrone.
That free online. And games being complete at launch not relying on dlc. Still insane splatoon is full price and 95% is locked behind a paywall…. What made the first one good was the online being free.
Anyway there’s alot of things iwata wouldn’t let pass. He’s a gamer…and a business men. The new Nintendo is purely business…. And see only money.
Most of the switch games kinda show that …
March 24 is nine days before the Switch 2 direct. We’ll probably see a good chunk of new games announced then.
Hoping we’re getting a revamped and improved ecosystem for Switch 2, and they’re not just pulling the rewards program. My Nintendo never really lived up to it’s initial promise of a unified user ecosystem, but at least there was a rewards program and user icons. Switch 2 seems like it’s going to be another “long haul” console for Nintendo, so they really need to expand on the social aspect of the platform, have a robust rewards system (and greatest hits line) to keep people buying, real customization of the backgrounds, colors, etc. (even monetized), and have some form of achievements/leaderboards to go along with the social aspects.
Don’t be too harsh, I think they will just change the way they give rewards for Switch 2.
All you motherfuckers are freaking out over nothing. It’s very likely there will be a replacement system in place at some point. Y’all are insane in these comments.
You are DELUUUUUUUSIONAAAAAAAAAALL. Companies that pull out consumer friendly features from their app never replace it with something better NEVER! It never happened one time
Yeah… not a smart move at all. It only proves things are going to get pricier.
Well that sucks. Gonna miss these Gold Pennies.
Ok Nintendo you wanna play hard ball fine then we’ll play hard ball You wanna get rid of gold points right Go right ahead But I will warn you now You get rid of gold points You’re not going to like what I’m going to do I only want to tell my whole family that you discontinue the gold points program on my Nintendo rewards My whole family won’t be a fan of Nintendo no more another thing I’ll do something that you will regret I’ll either jailbreak on my switch do a jailbreak or I’ll do something else that’s going over your head Nintendo and I’ll Homebrew my switch let’s see how you like them apples And it’s not worth it getting the law in my way I can easily run them off quick and a heartbeat getting them in trouble accusing them basically of a crime but anyhow if I have to homebrew my switch I’m going to or if I have to jailbreak it I’m going to to keep the gold points or cheat my way through
Have you taken your meds today?
It’s not long before the Switch 2 Direct. They’ll probably reveal a new system similar to gold points on there. Plus, they left out platinum points, so those are still gonna be a thing. Also, you can get physical rewards using said platinum points. Jumping to conclusions & having no patience seems to be everyone’s real problem here upset by this. Give. It. Time. If they don’t announce a replacement for gold points within a year after April 2nd, THEN I say let Ninty have it.
I think my previous reply got rejected, so I’m typing again to say after a while from this announcement, it does seem like a good move to have another program replace the gold points and vouchers. While it is disappointing for Switch 1 users to not have a discount program, over time the copies will be distributed in lower prices in the physical market. It would be interesting to see what Nintendo does for a new program, though.
Sad to see Gold Points going away. It was a small but nice reward system. Hoping Nintendo introduces a better alternative soon. Some are already looking into benefits from official partners aviator programs—maybe that’s where the future is headed.
Disappointing to see Gold Points discontinued—they added a bit of value to digital purchases. Hopefully Nintendo has something better planned for Switch 2. Meanwhile, I’ve noticed discussions on platforms like https://salampkr.com.pk/ picking up around alternative reward systems—interesting times ahead.
