Every year, the Strong Museum in Rochester, New York inducts some games to be a part of the World Video Game Hall Of Fame that are considered to be among the very best that gaming has to offer. The games that can be nominated vary from video games released on home consoles to mobile games and even electronic games like Tamagotchi.
This year is no exception, with the finalists for the class of 2025 announced very recently. Tamagotchi, NBA 2K, Harvest Moon, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Angry Birds are just among the games nominated. Another one, GoldenEye 007, is a Nintendo 64 game. The inductees will be announced at the Strong Museum’s ESL Digital Worlds exhibit on May 8th.

N64 goldeneye definitely needs to be in the WVGHOF, an absolute classic that probably wouldn’t be appreciated by many of todays modern gamers, but at the time it was one of the best games around for fps and multiplayer
Harvest Moon my love
I loved this game!!!!!!!!!!!
Fun fact: Tamagotchi was for girls and Digimon was for boys. Eventually, Digimon became it’s own franchise.
If games like Angry Birds are nominees, it can’t be “the very best gaming has to offer”. 🤷♂️
And now that it is owned by sega…
If NBA 2K can be nominated with it’s overpriced micro transaction dlc for virtual currency then “LOL”
Nice to see Age of Empires on that list! It probably won’t make it, but it would be awesome if it did.
Glad to see Age of Empires mentioned! Even if it doesn’t make the cut, it’s still great to see on Incredibox game list.

I grew up with GoldenEye on the N64 and still fire it up for split-screen matches, so seeing it on the finalist list made me smile. I’m curious if Harvest Moon could join too since I spent hours tending crops with my family.
I remember playing GoldenEye 007 on my N64 and would love to show my kids the split-screen chaos if it makes the Hall of Fame. I’ll keep an eye on the May 8th announcement and hope Harvest Moon also gets the nod.
GoldenEye 007 being nominated for the Hall of Fame brings back so many memories. I remember endless split-screen sessions on the N64 with my friends, truly a formative game for me. It definitely deserves to be inducted!
I’m surprised Tamagotchi made the World Video Game Hall of Fame finalist list this year—brings back memories of keeping my virtual pet alive on long car trips. Also curious about how GoldenEye 007 fits alongside modern hits like Angry Birds. Image 2
