US: Nintendo says Switch 2 pre-orders won’t start on 9th April due to tariff’s

Donald Trump’s changes to tariffs is seemingly going to affect the Nintendo Switch 2 pricing in the United States. Nintendo informed journalist Tamoor Hussain that the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, which were meant to kick off in the USA on Wednesday 9th April, will not happen on that date and will be announced at a later date. Presumably the Kyoto-based company is looking to see how much Trump’s tariffs will affect pricing before committing to pre-orders, which would obviously have to include the system price. Pre-orders have already opened in Europe at a large number of retailers. Nintendo says that the launch date remains 5th June in the United States and the rest of the world.

Statement from Nintendo: Statement from Nintendo: Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.

  1. One cent more than $450 and I’m out. At least until I can “cheat the system” like I did with PS5. Wait until black friday and buy lots of $50 Gamestop cards for $40 each at BJs or Costco then save $100 on the system. ;)

  2. Man this is like taking a huge blow to the head. Thanks to Trump tariff announcement. I still dislike the guy himself. I guess Nintendo is going to stick with 450$ without any change all thanks to Trump’s yammering.

The system was going to be that price regardless of tariffs. Anyone saying tariffs are the sole reason for the price increase that is a boldfaced lie.

      1. Well some sources tells it that it is the sole reasons why because of the tariffs. I guess Trump was just too freaking busy on not making any promises about the US is going to be great but we all predicted that he is going to make the country even worse now since he mess everything up during COVID.

    2. Why are you acting like $450 is some awful price? I swear Nintendo fans just want everything cheap but also want really good tech. This is a reasonable price for what you are getting

      1. Honestly, it is a awful price compare to other modern devices. Its not a very good decent price for people’s budget. Some people can’t afford things that are too expensive like a new I-Phone and a new Tesla Cybertruck. They wanted things to be a little cheaper compare to other consoles like PS4 and Xbox One prices. They wanted the gaming market to be less cheaper for their own money to spend on even if each consoles manufacturers want’s to make improvements for their products without any real issues. Its like Xbox Series X suffers smoking issues after launch.

  3. So if they can change the preorder date hey can change the prices. I’m sure Trump’s tariffs aren’t the full reason why they’re doing this. It’s way too convenient an excuse

    1. Honestly, that might be the full reason because Nintendo want’s to make sure they will beat the Nintendo Switch 2 sales so everyone can get one. The rich people gets richer and the poor get more torture.

  4. Everywhere else the pre-orders remain the same. This is simply a US and Trump thing. I feel sorry for those people who didn’t vote for him but still have to live with the consequences.

  5. Hey @Sickr any news this will or won’t affect the registry for pre ordering in May from the Nintendo website?
