Former Nintendo PR managers comment on Switch 2 pricing backlash

Former Nintendo PR managers Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang have said in a new video that Nintendo is facing a true crisis moment over the pricing of Nintendo Switch 2 games and the console in certain countries. They said that it was a deliberate omission from Nintendio not to reveal the console pricing in its presentation, leading fans to scramble online to find out how much the games and console cost. Yesterday, the Nintendo Treehouse stream chat was spammed by fans urging Nintendo to “drop the price.” Ellis said “I don’t want to blow things out of proportion, but this does feel like a true crisis moment for Nintendo.”

  1. People need to get a job so they can buy it and stop spamming to Drop the price! You can thank your president for the tariffs if you voted for him and this is what we get. regardless you’re paying for what you get this is not 1970 1980 anymore. We’re not buying televisions NES consoles were buying Xbox PlayStation five pros all Nintendo is doing is improving their graphics improving their gameplay for all fans small and large if you can’t afford it I’m sorry if you’re complaining that’s your choice.

      1. Hang on dude. I ain’t no finance expert but I would bet a on tariffs certainly having an effect on the price to consumers.
Secondly, I’ve read another article thinking that Nintendo also believe they can get away with charging these ridiculous numbers.

I’m glad the treehouse was spammed.
Also charging for software for a tutorial, cartridges without the media installed. Just goes to show how out of touch Nintendo are.
I’ll be voting by NOT buying.

        1. Tbh I wish they got this backlash when it came to Nintendo and their switch era dlc …

Hell wish they got it for the splatoon games after 1. Locking splatoon 2 A ONLINE FOCUSED GAME AT FULL PRICE behind a online paywall was scammy asf. An after thought offline doesn’t excuse it.

I just know splatoon 4 will be a mess

    1. Tell me you don’t know what a tariff is without telling me, bruh american tariffs don’t raise the price digitally for both europe and Canada, this argument has been debunked, also the BOOTLICKER fits you

    2. John, Scum of the World

Hello John, are u a stupid american b-tch? We really can’t expect anything from a worm like you.

    3. Even people with lobs think it’s too expensive. Why are you defending price gouging practices? Inflation is a fake excuse and everyone is not doing as well in this economy. That’s not when you ramp up a price. That’s when you read the room and ask yourself of you want people to actually buy your product or not. They made the wrong choice and it’s not going to sell to their expectations for that reason. Don’t attack people for struggling although I appreciate you’re probably autistic and incapable of connecting with people based on your comment lmao

    4. It’s fascinating how fan reactions to pricing can shape a product’s success, whether it’s gaming consoles like the Switch 2 or streaming platforms showcasing content—something https://myfreecineapk.com/ touches on when exploring how audiences respond to changes in access and costs. Transparency really matters in building trust with fans and users alike.

    5. You make a fair point—times have changed, and today’s consoles reflect huge leaps in technology, graphics, and gameplay compared to decades past. While prices can be frustrating, the value often matches the innovation. And just like with major purchases, navigating legal matters also requires careful consideration and the right expertise. 2. “I don’t want to blow it out of proportion” and then precedes to. They’ve been over the top about everything tbh, saying nonsense like ” some people won’t be able to afford this and that’s bad!” Which is about as banal a statement as anyone could make. That’s life I’m afraid, not everyone can afford everything and there’s plenty of things I can’t afford but I don’t cry about. The whole reaction to this seems very immature but it will be forgotten pretty soon. Already have mine pre ordered with Mario Kart at a very reasonable £429 and games that are a lot less than the RRP, as normal.

  3. yea its a great strategy to print 3 million Switch 2s to avoid the scalping crisis and then price them as if they only want to sell half a million. Its like the LiveNation realizing they were letting scalpers make all the money off concert tickets to they just got in the game themselves.

  4. So many other companies in the gaming industry do/did lay-offs. Nintendo doesn’t. So.. when everything else becomes more expensive, they make their products more expensive too.

  5. It’s just distressing the comments here… to read some of them, Nintendo should give their console for free!
We can complain about prices but it’s the harsh reality: prices are rising, it’s our society that wants it (and especially a stupid American president!)

But castigating a particular company when some people don’t mind buying the same annual version of a game or a €1000 phone with just “X” in its name on top of it, is making fun of the world..

    1. Dude, just shut up. Seriously.

I paid 60 euro for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, physical. Nintendo are now asking me to pay 90 for Mario Kart World, physical.

That is beyond reason. That is beyond tariffs (that aren’t even between Europe and Japan!). That is beyond inflation. A 50% increase. It’s just greed.

      1. Stupidity is your ignorant commentary!
The prices are going up it’s the harsh reality, compared to the prices charged 10 years ago and those of now makes no sense (Mario Kart 8 is a Wii U game at the base!) and once and for all: the price of the games has hardly changed in 20 years! Do you think it’s logical that these prices haven’t gone up while the cost of development has only gone up?
At some point, you have to pass on the price to the consumer, you may find it distressing but that’s life, life is expensive, that’s how it is!

Nintendo is only aligning itself with the competition and it’s them that we’re complaining about?

And I’m a woman, by the way!

      2. 90 physical? People are still spreading this misinformation?

It’s $80 physical. Go to Nintendo’s own site and see it. The 90 was a misinformation coming from people who don’t know the difference between Euro, Canadian dollar and US dollar.

Plus most of the people complaining already spent $400 on Fortnite and Genshin, and will buy GTA6 for $100.

        Hypocrisy at its finest.

    2. A Real Nintendo Fan

Please seek a better Education Sofiona and stop Blindly and Ignorantly defending one of the most wealthiest companies on the planet just because you are a fan of their products. I’ve been a Nintendo fan my entire life but I’m also not a moron or a sheep.

      1. Sofiona is more than right in her observations. You’ve been a Nintendo fan all your life? For how long? Since the NES? If so then you would know that game prices back then were more than double what they are now if you adjust to current currency values. Prices are going up, because that’s the way it is. Do you also blame the local market or grocery store for rising vegetable prices? It’s really ridiculous how people expect Nintendo to change into a philanthropic organisation, but I’m not surprised… those same people are probably as left leaning as you get, and as is very well known… socialists are excellent at spending other people’s money. If you’re so upset about the pricing don’t buy the Switch 2… it’s really that easy. Let’s see for how long you’ll last without groceries, energy, housing, etc.

        1. “Did you know would know that if the price of living vs what people were paid back then then people’s salaries more than double what they are now.” Think before you speak. Income vs the price of living was much better back then and they have not scaled up equally. Big Business’s, Landlords, and more are taking advantage and you are thinking exactly how they want you to think. Many games back then would be more expansive today because they were $70 back then, the difference was that people actually got paid enough to be able to comfortably live and have enough to make such purchases. Don’t get all high and mighty to me while defending companies intentionally taking advantage of you.

  6. Anyone commenting that this is because of trump tariffs needs new brains and need to get their TDS checked, prices were set long before tariffs plus the world set tariffs on US yet no one has batted an eye but the second trump implements tariffs everyone loses their minds, anyone that isn’t trump implementing tariffs everyone cheers. Also, Nintendo isn’t making the chip going into the system it’s Nvidia and they are notorious for their ludicrous pricing.

    1. Pre-orders in the USA are postponed because of Trump’s tariffs… (that’s what I thought I read on the threehouse chat)

On the other hand, what many forget here is that it is not Nintendo that sets the prices but the distribution…
For digital, Nintendo is “forced” to charge “more or less” the same prices as in physical because of the pressure of retailers otherwise it would be cheaper (and no one understands that)

      1. A Real Nintendo Fan

I was right Sofiona. You definitely should go back to School, Read some books, do a little studying, take some classes somewhere. You are just spreading misinformation at this point.

          1. A Real Nintendo Fan

In the video game industry Sofiona, Game Publishers, Not Retailers, typically determine the initial price of new games, though retailers can choose to offer discounts or sales.

            Here’s a more detailed explanation:
            Publisher Sets the Initial Price:
Game publishers, like Electronic Arts, Activision, or Nintendo, set the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for their games.

            Retailer’s Role:
Retailers, such as GameStop or Best Buy, then decide how to price the game, whether to sell it at MSRP, offer a discount, or participate in sales events.

            Sales and Discounts:
Retailers often coordinate sales and discounts with publishers, and publishers may even have “whitelists” of games that can be discounted up to a certain percentage without needing further approval.

            1. Yes, and? That’s exactly what I’m saying…
Nintendo gives a “recommended” price, and it’s the retailer who sets the final price accordingly…
We can complain about the high price, but you don’t take into account the additional costs and margins.
I don’t know how much it costs Nintendo, but it’s undeniable that it costs more than the first Switch, so comparing their prices makes no sense.

    1. Which crisis exactly? The one people deliberately spreading misinformation (because it was already disproved that $90 is even a thing) are trying to cause?

Or the one people who think the console should be $299 or $399, despite all of the new tech are trying to cause?

Small wonder this site is only known by the trolls and ignorants.

      1. It’s several hours after Vietnam bent the knee to Trump and reversed their tarriffs yet there’s still people who think America somehow effected the price for the whole world instead of Nintendo just being Nintendo.

      2. We’re several hours past the announcement of Vietnam bending the knee to Trump and reversing their tariffs but there are still “people” who think America somehow effected the price for the entire world instead of Nintendo just being Nintendo. I wish y’all would stop typing between Tesla bombings.

        1. Trump and is going to meet with the Vietnamese. Doesn’t mean he’ll drop the tariffs to zero. I wish right wingers would read beyond headlines.

  7. Based chat. Nintendo is being greedy. I genuinely hope people actually restrain themselves from buying this shit, don’t cave in, there’s plenty of other stuff to play.
Also anyone who defends these shit prices… Why do you want to spend more money… Just start wiping your ass with money and eating too, it’s the same thing. Nintendo is loaded, we’re not. Mario Kart World could be priced at $20 (not saying it should be) and still make a shit ton of money because the series sells so well, it doesn’t need to be $80. What’s more absurd to me, is a half-assed “upgrade” for BotW being priced at $70. An 8 year old game for $70, it’s absurd. It should be $30, max $40 by now.

  8. The reality is that unlike 10 years ago we no longer have to buy a console and a handheld to play every Nintendo game.

But also, I think Mario Kart at $80 reflects that it’s a forever game. You’ll be playing it for the consoles lifecycle.

You’ll likely spend less on Mario Kart than your Fortnite skins.

I’m still upset about the price (I’m in Canada and oof) but I get it.

    1. The Switch 2 again is weaker than a PS4 Pro. The PS4 came out in 2013. Quite Your Defending one of the wealthiest companies in the world when they are the wrong just because you like their games. It’s the same reason Pokemon games are in the horrible state that they are in. You are also calling people names, you don’t even realize how you look right now and I doubt you ever real. People like you are why things get worse, People like Donald teach you all that standing up and letting your voice and concerns be heard are wrong. That’s what Companies and people of power want you to do, to stay silent and consume. You are on the wrong side of history. You are literally standing against consumers, gamers, and people like you and are defending a Wealthy Company that is wanting to screw you and the rest of us over. Nintendo isn’t your friend.

    2. “The PS5 was 500 at launch. And some games were 70 bucks”

The Switch 2 is literally weaker than a PS4. PS4 and PS5 Games Look close to real life and Cartoon Styled Games look as good if not better than animated films. Outside of Resolution and Frames, Mario World almost look Identical to 2014’s Mario Kart on the WiiU, that is two Console generations behind and even then, Mario Kart 8 and WiiU specs were far behind everything else on the Market when it comes to Specs. The New Donkey Kong game barely looks Graphically different than Mario Odyssey that released Year one on the Switch in 2017.

  9. Nintendo will have no choice but to drop the prices of the Switch hardware. I doubt they will want to drop game prices, since games end up making them the most money in the long run.

Better to drop the console price by $50 and still charge $80 a game. 🤷🏼‍♂️

But, I will admit, the backlash is moreso about the game prices. New games should NOT cost $80 base-price. Period. End of story. Games are already too expensive and this is ridiculous.

We are approaching the $100 mark and at that point, they are coming close to the costs of actual consoles themselves!

I have a feeling if Nintendo puts their foot down on this it will cost them their first year on the market and they will either have to readjust, or get used to shorter sales margins.

  10. I think $450 for the console is fairly reasonable, but $80 for the physical cartridge is just wrong. Especially when some game cartridges won’t even have the game contained inside. Also, to the people defending Nintendo and their pricing, these are the same people who released Wii U games on the Switch with barely any upgrades for the price of a full game. They charge you for internet services that have barely improved, and the classic games that you get with the Switch Online aren’t even guaranteed to be available. What happened to Super Soccer could happen to any of the other games, or the service itself. I’ve been a Nintendo fan since I could walk, but I’m not about to sit here and defend their scummy practices because of some memories. People need to speak up with their voice and their wallets to show Nintendo and the other game companies that are taking advantage of consumers that we won’t accept their nonsense. These games that are half-done, full price graphics upgrades, require $30+ of DLC to get the full experience, and more are unacceptable and if we keep buying them, things are going to continue to get worse.

  11. It’s definitely a tough spot for Nintendo. Pricing transparency has become so important, especially with fans getting more vocal online. This reminds me of how users react to mobile game updates too—if features are locked behind higher paywalls or unclear changes, backlash happens fast. That’s why modded versions of games like https://modsummersaga.com/ are so popular—they offer smoother access and clarity from the start, which players really appreciate. Nintendo might want to take a cue from how mod communities keep user trust front and center.

  12. The Tashan Win App is a total game-changer in the world of online gaming! The user interface is sleek, smooth, and super easy to navigate. This platform really knows how to prioritize its users’ convenience. Whether you’re new or experienced, Ok Win Login makes everything easier and more fun. 14. Ok Win App is an absolute gem for gaming enthusiasts! The interface is sleek and user-friendly, making it easy to explore all the gaming options available. What I really appreciate is how smooth the gameplay is—no annoying lags or crashes. The variety of games keeps things exciting, and the customer support is top-notch too. Whether you’re in it for fun or rewards, this app never disappoints. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy secure and entertaining online gaming!

  15. The Switch 2 pricing debate really shows how balancing power and cost can create tension for both developers and fans. Optimizing hardware without overpricing is tricky, just like tuning a gaming PC, where one weak part can limit overall performance. I recently tested my setup using a Bottleneck Calculator https://bottleneckcalculatoronline.com/ and it reminded me how small imbalances can affect the whole experience. Nintendo faces a similar challenge, finding that perfect balance between performance and affordability.

  16. Infinite yield script is an admin script that allows users to gain additional control over the gaming experience of Roblox players. This script offers. <a hr

  17. ersonally, I think transparent communication matters more than ever in big launches like this; gamers don’t just want good hardware — they want clear pricing up front so they can make informed decisions. That’s where tools like

    Magis TV gratis app

come in handy: they help people track pricing trends and set alerts, so you’re not caught off‑guard by sudden announcements or backlash in the community.

  18. The pricing backlash around Switch 2 shows how sensitive gamers are to value versus performance, especially in today’s market. Beyond console pricing, many players also evaluate whether their existing hardware can keep up with new titles smoothly. This is where performance balance becomes important, not just raw specs. Platforms like BottleneckCheck focus on helping users understand real-world limitations before upgrading. For anyone assessing system performance or gaming constraints, https://bottleneckcheck.com provides useful insights into potential bottlenecks.

Honestly, with all the noise around Switch 2 pricing, it’s interesting to see deeper discussions about systems and long-term thinking. I recently came across “https://anthosphere.com/ and it feels different — not just opinions, but a structured way to look at decisions and their real impact. It’s a bit unexpected, but actually refreshing in conversations like this.
