Digital Foundry examines Mario Kart World and suggests there’s a 120fps mode

The gaming technology focussed team at Digital Foundry has recently been examining the long-awaited next game in the beloved Mario Kart series Mario Kart World for the Nintendo Switch 2. Digital Foundry says that judging from analysis of their footage the game’s resolution is at 1440p without TAA or temporal upsampling. They go on to say that the game runs at a buttery smooth 60fps, which is to be expected, while the game’s Photo Mode runs it at 30fps. The most interesting thing is that Digital Foundry allude to a 120fps mode in Mario Kart World, though they haven’t seen this up and running.

“Beyond the game’s core visual makeup, we should discuss the title’s basic rendering parameters. In World’s default visual mode in docked play, current media suggests a 1440p image in all my counts without TAA or temporal upsampling. It’s a little hard to offer a precise sense of image quality, given that all the extended footage we have is ripped from Nintendo Treehouse playthroughs, but I think it generally looks fine enough. Relying so heavily on baked lighting minimises aliasing gremlins in typical play.”

“All the material we have so far suggests a 60fps refresh, which is maintained faultlessly. The game’s photo mode runs at a more modest 30fps update, however. There’s also apparently a 120fps mode, though we don’t have any capture of it at the moment. Split-screen play is also included here, at least for race events. The same 60fps update is evident, at least for two-player split-screen play. We don’t have any footage of four-player splitscreen, though the Nintendo Treehouse footage features two consoles running with two-player splitscreen put side-by-side.”

        1. “Just get the voucher” I feel like I’ve heard this before, what about when there isn’t a bundle later for another game

  1. Nintendo Switch should be 1399 dollars!
    Straight up!

Only true Nintendo fans will buy it,
the chat will be more positive since people who are always angry, baiting and toxic are mostly poor people!

AAAnd we all know poor people have one thing in common,
no morals and virtues, no pride, no class and just straight up self destructive group of po-o-p, eat and cry stinkers (seriously, dude)

No thanks, I want these people priced out of the community.

    Good Lord!

  2. I wanted to have that kind of technical knowledge to be able to analyse the ins and outs of a console and its games from Youtube footage without even seeing the console personally.

And yes, I’m being sarcastic. Dunno why people still give DF the time of the day.

  3. Still not worth $80 on a game you can beat every course in 2 days. What happens after you bear every course? Nothing. Amd driving anywhere you want to from the trailer doesnt look fun but rather a bore.

  4. Mario Kart will offer replayability for the entire lifespan of the switch 2. Quit whining. Sonic Team Racing is probably $15, go get that if you’re that offended by the cost.
