US: Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitations from My Nintendo rolling out 8th May (IGN Update)

Update: Looks like IGN got us a little too excited and that date was posted on the store a while back. The publication has now updated their article stating that they made a mistake. Ah, well. As soon as a new pre-order date is posted we will let you know. Apologies.

Nintendo was planning to have Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders up and running in North America starting 9th April, but thanks to Donald Trump’s now revoked global tariffs the Kyoto-based company decided to delay pre-orders for the highly-anticipated console. Fast forward to today and the My Nintendo Store has updated its site to say that a selection of Nintendo Switch Online members will be invited to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 in May with the email invites going out on 8th May. It seems likely that other retailers will also begin their pre-orders around then, similar to how its worked out elsewhere in the world.

“The first batch of invitations will go out starting May 8, 2025, with additional batches of invitation emails sent periodically until purchasing on My Nintendo Store is opened to everyone.”

    1. Wish everyone would stop presenting this as an “update” when it was posted on day one and hasn’t changed since. Are you all just copying and pasting each other’s articles?

  1. Disappointing news as I was hoping they would get these up asap so that people could stop moaning about the price. Now we’ve got to suffer another month of that from people hoping that if they keep complaining they’ll drop the price.

  2. Yeah… this isn’t news. It was there as you signed up on the website on 4/2. So it hasn’t changed at any point…

Tariffs are meant to not be permanent and are supposed to bring those affected to the negotiations table to bring the tariffs down or make them 0% for both sides. It’s not fair that countries place ridiculously high tariffs on the USA yet no one batting an eye but the second the USA does it it’s “evil” cuz “orange man bad’ yet no one said it’s bad when 666yr old Pelosi and race baiter Obama wanted tariffs. 🤣 The only one currently not playing ball is China.

  3. And cue the TDS sufferage. Bruh, even though the prices are absolutely mental, they have been decided well before the tariffs were a thing. Just shut up about your President already.

    Trump is causing the problems.
His tarriff games are ridiculous . isn’t it amazing that the top 1% made billions with the stock market fluctuation that happened because of trumps on and off again tariff crap …, and he was in the oval office with a bunch billionaires bragging about how he made them because of his tiff non-, meanwhile Most of the people who voted for Trump are middle class or lower and they’re losing out in many ways, Like higher prices for medicine like consumer protections going away and vet’s getting screwed as he’s gutting the VA and prescription medicine is going up Because he did an executive order to take away all the things Biden did to medicine bring prices down … and the list goes on and yes, the switch could go up from the 449 price very easily unless Nintendo figures away around it…
