IGN has decided to take on the tricky task of deciding what’s the best game in the long-running and beloved Super Mario franchise. They have huddled together and racked their brains and have come up with the following list with the iconic Super Nintendo launch game, Super Mario World, being crowned their favourite. Without further ado here’s IGN’s top Mario games of all-time:

- Super Mario Odyssey
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Super Mario 64
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Super Mario Galaxy 2
- Super Mario 3D World
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros. Sunshine
- Super Mario 3D Land
I will never understand why Super Mario World tops this list; it’s not even in my top 5, personally.
Super Mario Bros. 3 (All-Stars version) however, is one of the most pleasant games ever made, I think!
I would have probably swapped positions of Odyssey and 3D World as well, but the rest makes for a solid list!
Smb3 would be top for me and then Mario world.
I think it depends on your age at the time of these game releases which will determine your own personal favourites, coz for me when I was around 10-11 I was in gaming heaven with smb3 and Smw.
A lot of gamers today weren’t even born back then. These games are one of the reasons why Mario marker is just an absolute gem of a game for me worth every penny.
No wonder.
Super Mario Galaxy is the best and it’s not even close.
Odyssey is the best.
Odyssey is way too high. I would put Galaxy 2 at number 2, but I agree with their No.1
Mario bros 3 is easily the best out the lot, closely followed by yoshi’s island.
Mario galaxy is the best 3D platformer.
Mario oddesey is the most fun game, but lacks challenge.
Super Mario Sunshine is still my favorite. I understand the hate it gets I really do. But man there is no other game like it, and I’m not even talking about Mario games, there is no videogame like sunshine in general, Beautiful aesthetics and environment, incredible movement, incredibly tough levels.
Just an overall weird and surreal experience. Phenomenal game despite its flaws but I wouldn’t change nothing about it.
Ordering the top Mario games is always going to draw debate because there are at least 7 or 8 phenomenal games in that series. It’s going to come down to subjectivity to decide how to order those. I have long favoured the Galaxy games but aside from that depending on how I’m feeling you could take that Top 7 and shuffle them in any order for me.

Mario 3 > Mario World.

Mario 64 for me. And one of the greatest games of all time
Mario 64 my personal favorite Mario game.
Mario 64 was one of the first games I ever played, and the first game I ever saw the ending and credits roll for. That alone makes it my number 1.
I would put both Galaxy games over Odyssey- the latter just didn’t grab me the way Galaxy 1 and 2 did.
I’m surprised not to see New Super Mario Bros on here. I think the close releases of 2/U have tainted just how popular that first game was and how fresh it felt. But then I’m not sure what I’d take out to put NSMB on there! Maybe 3D Land, as much as I love it.
Super Mario World totally deserves the top spot—it’s such a timeless classic! But honestly, I’m a little surprised Sunshine made the list over something like New Super Mario Bros. DS or even Mario Maker. Still, it’s always fun seeing how different people rank these iconic games.
