Rumour: Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of Zelda: Breath of the Wild & Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom may not support cloud saves

A ResetEra member has been doing a bit of digging on cloud save support for Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games and has discovered that the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild & The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom might not support cloud saves. The reasons being that Nintendo has already said you can import your original Nintendo Switch save to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of both Zelda games. Usually you can’t have double cloud saves so it is not clear how this would work. Nintendo’s own websites are slightly contradictory as some say “Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature.”

  1. It’s more than a rumour in the sense that it is actually posted on the official Nintendo website. It could just be a mistake though. Surely you can have your transfer mechanism from Switch 1 to Switch 2 and then just have a cloud save for the Switch 2 version of the game separately. If Nintendo have failed to implement this properly it reads as just laziness on their part to me.

  2. It sorta makes sense. The Switch 2 Edition has an exclusive 2nd save file. There would be no way to transfer the saves via cloud without including the 2nd save file on Switch 1 as well (and they aren’t gonna do it), hence no cloud saves between the versions.

  3. I’m a Dad, I’ve been playing since my Atari VCS and I should be through Avowed and Indy by then so yeah, I’ll get the Zelda upgrades. Importing my saves would be cool, but If I don’t plan to run though the games again why would I buy them?

  4. This could be a good thing though. I was wanting the Switch 2 edition, but I don’t want to lose the ability to exploit the item duplicate glitch from the TOTK game version I have. If I can copy the save file to Switch 2 and and have it save on the console, then I can keep my TOTK Switch 1 icloud save on the Switch and continue exploiting items.

    1. As far as I can tell you should be able to make a cloud back up on your Switch 1, transfer your save data to your Switch 2, and then redownload your save data to your Switch 1 from the cloud. You might have to put your user back on your Switch 1 again depending on how they go about transferring data between Switch 1 and Switch 2
