Ace Attorney wouldn’t have been a hit IP if Capcom hadn’t nurtured it

Video game development costs continue to rise as games and technology become more advanced, meaning that developers are less likely to take chances on games that would previously have been green lit ten years ago. One of these game series is the beloved Ace Attorney franchise, with former Capcom developer Masakazu Sugimori stating that despite Ace Attorney being a failure at first, the series succeeded because Capcom stuck with it along with the concept and in turn continued to “nurture” it.

  1. 100%, certainly when it comes to AAA developers these days your new IP is either a smash hit overnight or a failure that will quickly get abandoned (and there are far more going into that latter category). There is no way that Ace Attorney would have ever got even a single sequel in today’s market, and that’s a real shame because think what we would have missed out on.
