A Chinese YouTuber has managed to secure an actual Nintendo Switch 2 motherboard and obviously all attention has been on just how powerful the system is. It seems that Nintendo’s upcoming platform is slightly more powerful than the base PlayStation 4 console, but is not on the same level as an Xbox Series S. Digital Foundry received a lot of backlash regarding their comments that the Nintendo Switch 2 is similar to the PlayStation 4 which launched in 2013, but it should be pointed out that this is a handheld console.

It’s not that old to be honest, also, it used new gen features like DLSS and ai upscaling. For a portable console that also goes on the big screen, pretty good deal.
Haters gonna hate but, You can watch videos comparing the Switch 2, Series S and PS5 versions of games. The Switch 2 versions are clearly better than the Series S, and if it didn’t say which console it was, you wouldn’t be able to tell which was the Switch 2 and which was the PS5.

No. They are basing this off a bare motherboard so their assumptions will be of the console running at full spec.
I think this is mostly inline with what folks expected. A slightly more powerful PS4 with access to newer DLSS solutions could mean a lot more third party games than even the switch, especially from major publishers like Capcom. I mean, RE4 remake runs on a base PS4 right now so its safe to assume we’d see it on switch as well.

If it’s really a Tegra Orin chip inside, even “tinkered”, it’s still superior to the PS4…
And if we follow the different technical sheets obtained, it would be comparable to a PS4 only in portable mode. (which would be logical)
But the claim about the S series is contradicted by the images of Hogwarts Legacy, I know that Nvidia makes much better chips than AMD but this is too close for DLSS alone to explain

But it has the 10x faster SSD storage speeds that current consoles have that the PS4 and Xbox One did not. Games ran off of 5400rpm spinning hard drives, and they were VERY slow.
You see, it’s not just “HOW MANY GIGAHERTZ DOES DA CPU HAVE LOLOLOLOLOL,” there are MANY components that go into a console that affect how games run…

You guys are also crazy. Nobody is saying that it not somewhat similar to PS4 in raw power numbers. People are talking about how with in game graphics its closer to ps5 than it is to ps4. The chip is more modern than the ps5 chip let alone the 10 year old ps4 chip. With DLSS and all the modern hardware features many games will have graphics better than Series S like the street fighter. Sure for rare games that are CPU bound the games will probably be lower in some ways than Series S. Do some research. Nobody is arguing that digital foundry is wrong of the raw power of the switch 2. But they are wrong if they are suggesting the games will look and perform like ps4 in fact the switch 2 is well beyond that.
