Nintendo Switch 2 available internal storage is 249GB of 256GB

The Nintendo Switch 2 is advertised as having 256GB of internal storage, but how much of that is actually usable storage? Well, it turns out that you’ll actually have 249GB of available storage for your games. This is because the Nintendo Switch 2 operating system takes up 6GB. This is the same as any electrical device you purchase such as a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S as there’s always reserved space for the OS. You can read a detailed breakdown of the Nintendo Switch 2 storage space here.

  1. After the Wii U’s system taking up at least 10GB of memory for the operating system, it was probably a good move to make the system minimalistic. Although, it would be nice if they could give us options to download themes. Maybe have some free utility apps in the eShop as well.

      1. Given mentions in the last few weeks about the comment system being janky. I thought it might be self explanatory.
        But here you are Sonic.

That’s pretty good, means you get to download more games though personally I never use the system memory to download anything other than system updates.

  2. I suspect this isn’t including the actual system software etc and is just the full drive capacity taking account of the fact drives are advertised with 1000mb =1gb but in reality it’s 1024mb (which is ridiculous and always has been). I would put money on the system software and other overheads still having to be deducted from that capacity.
