PETA demands Nintendo remove Mario Kart World Cow’s nose ring

PETA has written an open letter to Nintendo president Shunatro Furukawa. The reason? Well, they aren’t happy with Mario Kart World‘s breakout star Cow’s nose ring. The organisation says that cow nose rings are used by the meat and dairy industries to “exploit, control, and even drag animals to their deaths.” They also say that the rings are “crudely stabbed through the sensitive septum of cows and bulls, which can cause lasting pain and discomfort.” They end the open letter amusingly by saying “leave the rings to Sonic and let Cow breathe free!.” Here’s the letter:

Dear Mr. Furukawa:

Greetings! I’m writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). PETA entities have more than 10 million members and supporters globally. We herd there’s a new star in Mario Kart World: Cow! She is already winning hearts everywhere—including ours. But one detail has us hitting the brakes: The brass ring in Cow’s nose. Would you please show empathy towards bovines and remove the nose ring? Here’s why this is so important:

Nose rings are used by the meat and dairy industries to exploit, control, and even drag animals to their deaths. These brass rings are crudely stabbed through the sensitive septum of cows and bulls, which can cause lasting pain and discomfort. The dairy industry will also clip spiked nose rings on baby cows so that the comforting act of nursing from their mother causes her pain and the baby is rejected and kicked away. To control bulls, a chain might be fastened from the nose ring to the bull’s horn for even more pain-driven control.

The brass ring in Cow’s nose glosses over real world violence and cruelty to animals. That’s why we’re asking you to give this beloved bovine a small but meaningful upgrade: Remove the nose ring and let Cow race freely—without any painful reminders of the industries that treat animals like profit-making machines.

Every animal is someone. So leave the rings to Sonic and let Cow breathe free!

  1. Why does it seems like those stupid motherf are only in the news, when they’re complaining about “abusage” of fictional “animals” in gaming and such? 😑

    1. Don’t think Nintendo doesn’t care about these petty demands, they censored a small little fighter for game and watch in smash ultimate for being racist

  2. Boycottokyomirage855

Do not obey peta. They are just as bad or worse than sweet baby inc and collective shout. Their aim is to ban and censor video games. They even kill some of the animals they claim to rescue.

        1. PETA believe that all pets are suffering by being pets and run what amounts to “shelters” that euthanize over 95% of pets that are brought to them. They were founded by a dog catcher who hates pets.

        2. Yeah they were looking for cats at a trailer park and lifted a chihuahua in front of a young girl, euthanised the dog that evening and game the family 50 dollars 2 days later

  3. Not only do we have to deal with the Collective Shout c-words but also these c-words. Both care more about abuse of fictional animals, women and children and not abuse of actual animals, women and children. Grifters i tell you.

  4. It would be cool if they added steak as a dash bag item for DLC. But it’s not they can sued Nintendo over this stupid nonsense. Why would they care much about a fictional animal character in the game with a nose ring? It’s not really hurting anyone especially the farming world. I have a friend who grew up in a farm and he loves cows.

  5. I agree, cows shouldn’t have nose rings, and it doesn’t change the game in any capacity to remove it. Also no problem if Nintendo doesn’t change it, but I agree with the point made 100%.

    1. One of the items is a cheeseburger, and you can eat it as a Cow. Is someone gonna write a period piece on that one? #GoombasAreHumanToo

    2. So, should they remove all meat-based food in the game too? Also, this isn’t a matter if it changes the game or not, it’s the fact that it’s a ridiculous demand because IT’S A FICTIONAL COW. There is literally no point because we aren’t even talking about actual, real cows, so the fact that you “agree” it’s honestly… silly, to put it very, very lightly.

      1. Well, to be honest, considering PETA’S usual shenanigans and antics, this isn’t really a super ridiculous or unreasonable request that they’re making.

  6. As usual. Funny given they don’t follow most animal rights stuff they believe like keeping animals in their natural habitat. They cover for left leaning people who violate that and pollute the environment they’re all about money and threats. Animal abusers they avoid that too. But they attack games. Adi Shankar is the same he actually tried comparing Pokémon to illegal animal fights.

  7. Well I demand @PETA stop killing more animals than they save on a yearly basis, I guess we’re both shit out of luck.

  8. PETA are of course a hideous organisation for a bunch of reasons. However, it is pretty funny how baited some of you guys here get by a letter like this. With everything that’s going on in the world right now, it’s so much easier to get people mad over some stupid letter by PETA about a video game cow’s nose ring than it is about anything meaningful. Such is life., I guess.

    1. Only thing going on, is that mostly left politicans make/made the most stupid decisions, mostly against their own people and those people are sucking it up like it’s nobody’s business. 🤷‍♂️

      1. All this Epstein stuff and citizen kidnapping going on and you still want to blame the left at every turn? Hell, Collective Shout isn’t even remotely left leaning and they got Steam and Itch.io censored by forcing the removal of games.

I bet mango mussolinis boots taste real nice to you.

  9. Honest talk: is such a thing really worth an article?

People are making the same mistake towards both PETA and Digital Foundry: giving them attention. Both are hacks and deserve to be ignored.

    1. On one hand I get what you’re saying, but ignoring these organizations is also how groups like Collective Shout start ending up getting taken seriously and causing harm.
