Those you hoping to upgrade your copy Dragon Quest VII Reimagined on the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 should be made aware that the two versions are being treated as separate games. This means that save data won’t be carried across if you decide to get the Nintendo Switch 2 edition at a later date. This also means that there won’t be an upgrade path from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2. This follows a similar process to the upcoming Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake.

I think the easy assumption is that for technical reasons the Switch 1 can’t do what they want to do with the game on the more powerful hardware like Switch 2/PS5/Xbox. No need to instantly jump to negative conclusions
I would be surprised if it were a matter of power since the game is also planned for the Switch 1… so I don’t really see what prevents them from updating to a Switch 2 edition for those who have that edition.
