Yooka-Replaylee runs at 30fps on Nintendo Switch 2

Those of you who hoping for 60fps on the undemanding Yooka-Replayee on the Nintendo Switch 2 will be disappointed to know that the 3D platformer will only run at 30fps on Nintendo Switch 2. Developer Playtonic says that a Performance Mode for Yooka-Replayee on the Nintendo Switch 2 could eventually come a later date. There’s a demo of the game on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S which runs at 60fps and features 4K visuals. A demo has not been announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 version.

  1. Really poor but I guess the only explanation is that they haven’t had a dev kit for long enough. I’m not getting it anyway, played it before and it was ok but nothing special. The graphics upgrade isn’t that amazing either

  2. I wish that I could win a lawsuit against Nintendo. I paid with tax $500 dollars for what was supposed to be a huge upgrade. I buy physical games. Because of Key Cards, even if the Switch 2 games did run better, I’m forced to to buy the worst versions of every 3rd party gane being from the original Switch and not having the supposed Switch 2 enhancements. Even worse Nintendo charges for these enhancements for their games when the enhancements were what you were paying for when you bought the console. Modern emulators automatically can run all games at 4K with max frame rates and nore for free. I regret buying the Switch 2 every day more and more. My original Switch, I have about three hundred games for it.

  3. Everyone should just accept that:

    1) Switch 2 is an underpowered console. It’s basically a handheld.

    2) Nobody takes the time to properly optimize their games.

Therefore, if you want the ultimate game experience – just buy both a good PC and a Switch 2 for the exclusives. It’s that simple.

If you don’t have the money for a PC – then PS5 and Switch 2 is also good enough combination.

    1. Im telling you man, the switch is like double the power of a steam deck AND I GARANTEE you the steam deck will make this game run 60 fps no problem, this is absolutely INSANE

  4. Looks solid, 30 fps ain’t that bad even though it could be better. Switch 2 is powerful, but many developers aren’t putting much effort into porting when they could easily be better.

  5. Let’s be real though why would anyone be excited to play these 3rd party games on switch 2 even if they could benefit from the full power of the switch 2? It’s nowhere near a PS5 which all of these games have been on for years. I just do not understand why all these companies and nintendo thought these would be good sales.

    1. I prefer real physical cartridges to discs or digital downloads, and I prefer handheld gaming to a more tethered home console experience.

Much as I prefer cartridges, my Steam Deck was far better than my Switch 2, and I’ve had the Deck for over 3 years. It’s more powerful, I get better battery life, almost everything is 60FPS, and I don’t have to rely on smeary, ghosting AI upscaling for a good experience.

I have like 50+ Switch 1 cartridges, so far absolutely nothing for Switch 2 except paid updates I’ll probably never get around to replaying. The Switch 2 is more of the same, minus most physical media, in an era where PC handhelds are taking off. They HAD the physical advantage, now I’d sooner buy games on a PS5 disc or Steam/GOG. Nintendo bungled this gen so far, massive sales drop-off after scalpers had their fill being good evidence. They can turn things around, but they desperately need to get out tons and tons of dev kits, and start giving devs 8GB, 16GB and 32GB cartridge options.
