The animated video which Nintendo released yesterday which was titled Close to You has now been revealed by Nintendo to be tied in with the Pikmin franchise. The Kyoto-based company has released an alternate version on Nintendo Today which features the different Pikmin who were previously hidden. It seems likely that we will start to see more animated shorts for the Pikmin series from Nintendo Pictures. Well done to those of you in the comments who guessed or realised that it was Pikmin related.

It was really subtle, I liked it a lot
I heard the Pikmin theme in the first jingle of the video, so I knew it had to be Pikmin. I was so confused when there just… wasn’t any Pikmin. Very odd to remove the Pikmin from the video first only to post an identical video later with the Pikmin reinstated. I guess that’s to showcase that Pikmin are invisible to humans? Kinda like some Japanese folklore has certain small creatures unseeable to a human eye unless they are pure of heart.

In the Pikmin Bloom app, it says that pikmin are invisible to the human eye and can only be seen through our smartphones. The part about needing a phone probably isn’t canon, but it makes sense as a gameplay explanation, referring to the augmented reality technology.
So apparently, pikmin are invisible to humans, but Olimar and the other protagonists can see them normally.
Oh neat, I didn’t know that.

I think it’s funny how so many articles here specify “Kyoto-based company” but dog, Nintendo is in the name of the site. We don’t need a formal introduction every time. Nothing wrong with it but I wonder why it’s so important to mention Kyoto every time.
I realized this immediately due to the music, but it was very fun to see the confusion and discussion surrounding this.
