Kotaku sources reveal 3 minute trailer at The Game Awards costs over $1million

Kotaku has been chatting with its sources regarding The Game Awards, which kicks off tomorrow, and have discovered that it isn’t cheap to showcase your company’s game at the annual event. Sources informed the online publication that a 60 second trailer would cost you up to $450,000, and that a tasty three minute trailer could cost you over one million dollars for the privilege. Thankfully there are some free spots for smaller video games which catch host and organiser Geoff Keighley’s eye.

“And the prices keep going up. According to two sources familiar with this year’s show, a 60-second trailer during the 2025 ceremony can cost up to $450,000. A three-minute trailer costs over $1 million. Two separate sources in the video game publishing world said that while they had not been briefed on this year’s rates, these sounded in line with what they’d expect from previous years.”

      1. Sounds really ridiculous to put that in the publishers budgets. He is the creator of the Game Awards since 2014. I know Geoff is already rich despite him promoting the show and presenting some game announcements from many gaming companies. It’s still ridiculous for him to get companies to pay for game announcements and trailers to be included at the show.

        1. This is why most the games he shows are China games, slop, mobile, gotcha, because they have the money, or they’re in bed with Geoff like Kojima and Critical Role. Don’t like it don’t watch it, trust me you do yourself a favor his shows are awful. Also why many companies prefer their own digital reveals now

        2. That’s how nepo baby hypocrite millennials are all claim to be anti capitalists but are the complete opposite and annoying just bad people like nepo baby geoff and his supporters

        3. It sounds like you’re unaware that this is the cost of doing business. It sounds ridiculous to the people watching from the outside. Yet these penny pinching companies do it? It might make business sense. A conglomeration of different companies getting awards and showing reveals clearly has value. It growing and getting more viewers allows them to charge more, also allows them to grow the show and get bigger companies to do reveals.

  1. That’s dumb. Hardly anybody would watch this event if it wasn’t for the chance to see some new trailers. It’s almost like charging a famous band to play at a festival or something.

        1. He needs to make his money somehow to afford his mansion in California and stroke his ego. His IMAX exec parents did this for him. The shills just defend him at every turn. Best game awards was Matan he should pay him to host

          1. Don’t expect that here basically don’t expect a lot because no one wants to pay him when they can reveal whenever and even better an event in 2026 iicon is coming from ex e3 people.

    1. Not exactly an equivalent.

This is more of like charging artist to to get rewarded with a trophy for their yearly accomplishments. And you know what? They do. And those silly trophies, are actually meaningful, as in a developer that’s worked on a game that’s recently received a GOTY award, can use that in their resume, and obtain high salaries.

You might not like it, and as much as you hate the Doritos pope, this helps everyone involved.

    2. He had Snoop Dogg perform last year washed up cringe snoop and this was his second time. It’s just cringe Snoop also forgot he’s been in a ton of games

      1. these awards shows are so dated anyways. nobody cares about the Grammy’s, only some Boomers and Gen X care about the Oscar’s, and only some Millennials care about The Game Awards. Gen Z will not care at all about any awards show and by Gen Beta (unfortunate name), they’ll be an ancient relic of a distant past.

          1. Yeah I honestly believe Geoff is lying no way it’s growing no way more people are watching he’s pulling some nonsense because he says that every year. Maybe he view bits last year it was on Kick too

            1. Idk man. His stream was on Amazon prime this year along with X, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.

And to charge 1M for a 3 minute trailer, that takes some actual business and data to back it up. But it seems to be getting bigger and bigger year over year

          2. Geoff uses bots its been clear that’s why he streams on multiple platforms to lie about his numbers and he has the money. Are you someone who works at Kotaku or something it seems that’s the case the way you are. Also Gurren Lagaan sucks trash anime like weirdo Kill La Kill. Go watch a real mecha like Mazinger or Getter Robo what Lagaan ripped off.

            1. Never once heard or cared enough to keep up with and his goings. I just remember what gets reported, but if you have sources or inside information on Geoff then please, elaborate. Not that I doubt you, but the Internet has been full of morons spreading misinformation and their opinions as facts.

Great, no body asked you though 🤷 and I care little to nothing about your opinion on animes.

        1. These awards help no one I don’t see the point for any of them. Grammys already pissed off Gen Z snubbing Travis Scott twice and not even nominating the biggest albums of 2024 and 2025 in favor of political people. Somehow Playboi Carti didn’t get nominated but the plant streamer Plaqueboymax got nominated that makes no sense and other rappers not included like YoungBoy and last year same Don Toliver wasn’t nominated and a industry plant activist no one knew won.

          1. Blame the agencies this is why certain people like Hasan get away with things. Hasan said worse things than Kanye yet Ari Emmanuel who owns Hasan’s agency called for Kanye to be blacklisted but not his own client? And yeah Hasan made worse claims on Triggernometry than Kanye. Rakai is a teenager around adults and no one says anything but Akademiks making a joke is weird? The kid he made the joke to has been around worse on stream but signled out Ak and is Max’s Discord mod? Max’s content is not something kids or adults should watch the way he likes Drake’s leaked picture no one called that out. Now the shoplifting Rakai, Ray, Nina they all do it and are nusiance streamers but no ban? Jack Doherty ban, N3on ban, Johnny Somali ban, Vitaly ban the difference they’re not with the agencies same with Adin Ross. These agencies are to blame for everything look at Bill Burr cheering on Luigi Mangione no blacklist like Kanye, Jimmel Kimmel lying, people on the news, Colbert attacking his own employers on air like this is weird? Mocking Charlie Kirk’s murder? YouTube banned people too but not Destiny who called for very horrible acts and they promote radical content like him on the algorithm even worse he and Hasan were on CNN being glamorized that is concerning and way worse than just talking to Nick Fuentes. But no one calls it out.

        2. Only good Game Awards was Matan showing up. Bro is a mega star now and unlike Geoff actually stands for his morals like being anti China unlike the shills in the industry and Geoff

          1. Funny thing Max dood hates Matan but turns out the kid who voices Kratos’s son is friends with Matan and thinks the whole thing was hilarious he was on Matan’s show. If he is there he should sneak Matan in. Would piss Hasan off also.

  2. that’s honestly not egregious. considering how many viewers this show generally intakes and how long 3-minutes is, plus comparing against say the infamous 30-second ad cost for the SuperBowl, I think this is fine. Indies and Double AA’s don’t need that long anyways, which is why to me, the $450,000 1-minute ad cost is worse.

  3. I will never respect the Game awards. It’s a Cash Grabbing, Disrespecting, 95% Ad Showing, Bias Nominating and Voting, Dumpster Fire.

    1. It’s all corpo the votes mean nothing and the show is torture. Only good moment was Matan Evan who I think might have richer parents than Geoff and Hasan Piker why they’re scared of him

  4. If it’s anything like the product of the year award, then game companies have to also pay to have their game considered for an award, then pay again if their game is deemed worthy of nomination in any category they decide to make. It’s a good business model

      1. And people keep on watching, It’s been years since I tuned to the game awards because I don’t want to support Geoff Keighley

  5. $1mil for 3 mins for a platform, that last year, gathered over 150mil views is incredible value. How are people in this comment section so focused on emotion that they miss very simple financials !

    1. It’s the same moron with different names. He’s been posting here a lot lately. Apparently Geoff touched him or something because hes had a bone to pick with him these last past articles. It’s pretty obvious when it’s him.

    1. Agreed! Grammys are trash, Oscars never got it, and the other awards show too like who is it for MTV? BET? Stream awards is cringe. Like stop this trash finally.

  6. Here from the future the annoucements were almost all awful this is why norhing big is revealed there. Nagoshi showed his new game so that was something.
