Sakurai: Kirby Air Riders will not get DLC plus team will be disbanding in the near future

The legendary and immensely hard-working video game designer, Masahiro Sakurai, has told fans on X that his recently released Kirby Air Riders will not be getting downloadable content. Mr. Sakurai also stated that the team behind the adorable game will be disbanding soon and going their separate ways to pursue other gaming projects. Here’s a rough translation of what was said in the X post:

“As discussed in Air Riders Direct 2, “Kirby’s Air Riders” does not have a production setup for DLC or anything like that. The team will be disbanding in the near future as well. Therefore, while we still have a short period of time to make adjustments, we’re aiming for a balance that can be enjoyed without issues even years from now. We might be able to tweak it one more time or so, but after that, please enjoy it as the completed balance!”

  1. Considering the game is so jam-packed full of content, this makes sense haha. Nintendo has been dropping back to back masterpieces. So happy to see Sakurai do Kirby again.

    1. It’s not jam-packed of anything worthwhile though, stop making a defense for a game that flopped so badly they’re already calling it quits

  2. I’m still glad Sakurai is back doing Kirby again since the original game was released 20 years ago. I understand he is a very busy guy since he is working on his next project right now. Legends will always have a legacy.

  3. That’s sad. But everyone should support this game. So no Smash? I was told by Max Dood that this was the Smash team at Bandai Namco? Are they moving to Smash? Also we need a new Kid Icarus or port of the 3DS game.

  4. this gives me PTSD to when project sora disbanded. this guy assembles godly talent and makes generational bangers only to dissolve the team months after a game drops… tragic, but at least Kirby AirRiders is already more than feature rich and truly a masterpiece capable of lasting a lifetime

  5. It’s a bit bittersweet to hear that Kirby Air Riders won’t be getting DLC and that the development team will soon be disbanding. That said, it’s reassuring to know that Sakurai and the team are focusing on leaving the game in a polished, balanced state that can be enjoyed for years. Sometimes a game being “complete” as intended is exactly what makes it special. I’m looking forward to enjoying it fully while the team is still around!

    Thanks for the update, Sickr.

    Best regards,

  6. This is what he said on the Direct for Kirby one of the best statements i heard over many hears. He said that he give everything from the start that is why a DLC will not come for the future. Everything is day one/

  7. Aw, I was kind of hoping the 7 Top Ride tracks from the GameCube KAR would be added, but I’m not upset that they won’t be. Still, it’s kind of refreshing that a AAA game in 2025 has all of the content Day 1; plus, it’s Sakurai- DLC or no, you know you’re getting high quality when he’s on board.

  8. Wow this game was made in 3-4 years, Mario Kart World apparently took 8 years to make and doesn’t even have as much content..

MKW winning at game awards was disappointing, everyone cheered more for Sonic.. Nintendo are kind of lazy with some of their games and content seriously.
