Geoff Keighley reveals how Mega Man Dual Override turned up at The Game Awards

One of the biggest announcements at The Game Awards 2025 was the appearance of a new Mega Man game which is Mega Man Dual Override. Organiser and presenter Geoff Keighley has revealed in an Instagram Story how the game came to make its debut at The Game Awards. Apparently Geoff frequently asked Ryozo Tsujimoto and the Capcom team when a new Mega Man game was coming and one day just before The Summer Game Fest he received a mysterious package which was filled with Mega Man plushies, a helmet, and figurines. he says that “I knew immediately what it meant.”

It all started a few days after Summer Game Fest, when a mysterious package arrived.

“It is time — Capcom.”

Inside were Mega Man plushies, a helmet, and figurines. I knew immediately what it meant.

For years, I’d ask Ryozo Tsujimoto and the Capcom team when it might be time to bring back the Blue Bomber. He always said they were experimenting and waiting for the right path forward. That box was the signal: they were ready.

A few weeks later, I was at Capcom HQ in Osaka. The lights dimmed, the Mega Man theme played, and through the door walked Minamitani-san in a full Mega Man outfit, alongside Izumi-san, dressed as Dr. Wily. It was classic Capcom.

We talked about their vision for the next Mega Man, and then they handed me a controller to play a very early ROM and give feedback. That’s when we began discussing how to reveal it to the world.

I knew the orchestra had to be part of it. One of my favorite video game orchestral moments ever is the Swedish Radio Symphony’s Mega Man suite.

At TGA, we love designing moments where the audience discovers something together. Where it’s not obvious at first, until suddenly it is. It’s why protecting surprises matters so much.

We pitched a reveal that began in an unfamiliar space station, as orchestral music slowly builds. At first, you’re not sure what you’re hearing until subtle hints reveal Dr. Wily’s Castle theme.

Capcom took it further. The years on the monitors in the space station represent every Mega Man release so far. Right before the door opens, we land on “12” — for the 12th game.

Months of tweaks followed — including changing the corridor color from blue to green so it didn’t give too much away.

For the music, the incredible @ursinevulpine reimagined the theme. He worked with me to reimagine Triage at Dawn for Final Hours of Half-Life: Alyx.

Bringing this to the stage takes dozens of collaborators, all working in total secrecy. We don’t fully rehearse these sequences until they happen live — and every time, our amazing TGA team nails it.

Some see these moments as marketing. To me, they’re part of the emotional core that defines TGA.

That’s how Mega Man came to TGA this year. 🎮💙

  1. Did they have to pay $1 million too. I’m sorry but this will not make back all the money if they really paid that plus budget and more marketing. Funny Capcom hasn’t started marketing Resident Evil and Pragmata yet. Maybe next year closer to release.

    1. Its all a scheme by talent agencies UTA, CAA, and Endeavor all these influencers who hate corporations are signed to them and get companies like Capcom to waste money on this and influencer other bad choices. Just saw Max Dood is under UTA, massive hypocrite. Same as Hasan Piker who is under Endeavor, the head of Endeavor Ari Emmanuel called to ban Ye but has not said anything on Hasan. This is very weird also they cover for Jimmy Kimmel despite canceling Ye.

      1. I wish that scumbag would stay away from anime games same way he claims he will DOA because that community called him out. Shout out to them he mocks and punches down the anime community but will play their games to slander them like Yugi mod in DBFZ, guy knows nothing about Dragon Ball and hates anime like mind your businesses but he plays what’s popular. Funny MK fandom called him out too and he still played it since he actually used to call their franchise garbage. Max Dood sucks! Heck he claimed to have some moral issue as to why he doesn’t play Fatal Fury but still played it then again he and his woke friends played COD after the China situation and the Bobby situation complete frauds just annoying. Now plays victim the DOA community bullies him, the anime community used to be rougher what happened? Gatekeep!

        1. Yup he is profiting off anime content yet hates it and mocks it also those fandoms mocking Naruto, Pokemon, Dragon Ball, Jojo, One Piece, now Yugioh like if you don’t like something fine but to do this is disgusting and parasitic. Even worse make a joke about FF7 he cries and bans you or a game or show he likes same like James Cameron. Such a hypocrite and entitled man baby. Anime community needs to call it out he’s worse than the tourists, why are you shitting on our thing? Don’t play DBFZ or the mods then. Problem is things he liked doesn’t get enough views so clout chaser does this.

      2. All these people under agencies CAA, UTA, WME, Night they all are being botted to make it look like they’re popular the views and likes on YouTube seeing people magically just get a boost now no more ratios and huge boost in views compared to last year around late last year it happened and it hasn’t changed also people not with agencies being shadowbanned and the others are pushed and forced in the algorithm no matter what and on the homepage. Initially it was for the election but it still has not changed, Trump and Jim Jordan accomplished nothing in fact the reverse. Twitch also complete mess all boys and it doesn’t make money but like Jimmy Kimmel talent agencies force the site to continue existing. Ye was canceled for going against script, Hasan does what they tell him that’s what these influencers are supposed to do even if it contradicts previous agenda it’s their job. People should wake up. These agencies need to be shut down they cover for horrible crimes like d4vd

        1. Yup after the Charlie Kirk murder they went into overdrive the Kimmel stuff they rushed to defend him, then Hasan and so many other situations they need to cover. They are getting exposed. Kimmel and other late night shows made no money but remain because of the agencies same with Twitch never profitable but remains operating because of them. So many politicians weirdly enough are also under these agencies. This needs to be investigated and all involved and funding it arrested
