Koei Tecmo has recently begun the complex task of remaking some of their older franchises and in an interview with Japanese gaming site 4Gamer, Fatal Frame series director Makoto Shibata, was asked whether there’s a possibility that they will eventually remake the first Fatal Frame game.
Shibata: Of course we received requests like that and it was an opinion within the company too. However, I think the game was so well received as the concept of ‘taking photos of spirits’ was new at that time. As the series continued we added new elements. If we remade Fatal Frame as it was, the number of areas and characters was quite low so there would be lots of things to reconsider. Furthermore the story isn’t very long, so the playtime is quite short. It was easier to see that Crimson Butterfly with a longer story and more content would be a better title to consider making.
Assuming the Crimson Butterfly Remake is received well, in the future if you continue to remake older games, is there still a possibility of seeing a remake of the first Fatal Frame game?
Shibata: Sure there is. However, as I said before, there is a problem of content but if we, for example, greatly evolved the game, then I think we would be able to share a new experience.
Thanks to Greatsong1 for sending in the news tip!

5 remaster, 4 remaster, 2 remake and 1 & 3 both get the remake treatment in the same engine, then Fatal Frame 6. This is the way
Ok where is Dead Or Alive?! This is the 30th anniversary and they said they would outsource it years ago where is it? A remake would be great and a new game.
Remake 4 honestly they should hire Yuya Takahashi and the Kamen Rider Geats team to write the story maybe a proper sequel or a MK2011 style retelling of the first few games with 4 gameplay. I feel it will be 7 given Ayane is older in NG4
Make it physical, like we had been asking for years and resorting to Playasia to get our copies, and it’s a definite purchase from me. I would love to have all of the games really. It was so disappointing to see Fatal Frame 2 end up a GKC.
Now can we get a update on a new Dead Or Alive. Announce it already! They announced Nioh 3 not long after Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and Ninja Gaiden 4
