The latest sales data is in from Circana which tracks video game sales data throughout the United States. Nintendo had the second best-selling hardware during the month of January with Sony’s PlayStation 5 proving to be the best-seller. The best-selling video game was Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, though it should be noted that Nintendo doesn’t provide digital sales figures. Here’s the top games for January 2026.

  1. January is usually the worst selling month for every console due to no major game releases and being after the holidays. But it sold pretty decently last month which is pretty great. At least it’s not the Wii U which sold Only 50k in January of 2013.

    1. The ps5 literally is just a remaster machine, at least the switch 2 has more exclusives. The switch 2 already has 5 exclusives with ps5’s only being Astro Playroom, Spider-Man 2, Astro Bot, and ghost of yotei.

        1. I forgot about that, never mind, now they have the same amount of exclusive. (Note: I don’t even hate the ps5 or anything, but it’s pretty disappointing as a sony console, I missed it when they pushed the hardware with exclusives like the ps3 did.

  2. We’re going on 30+ years of this nonsense NPD / Circana console war click bait that gets people inflamed in comment forums and fanboy sites. And yet none of you guys ask yourselves about the veracity or verifiability of this data.

Do you ever ask yourselves why, when Circana releases data on the Switch 2 trailing the PS5 in America, fanboys start shrieking in delight or terror — and yet Nintendo’s stock price just doesn’t respond whatsoever? It was up 1% today, in fact …

Because it’s not real financial analysis. It’s fanboy-targeted X-quality crap about a “console war” that only exists in some very sad people’s minds.

If you want to understand how Nintendo and Sony are really doing from a business POV, then go pore over their annual reports, regulatory findings, or see what trained stock analysts or hedgies or Wall Street funds have to say.

  3. Next mouth sony will say they sold another 5 million more PS5’s in January than previously reported like they did with the PS2 for the year seven years after the replacement was released and the year it was discontinued so do we really believe anything sales figures Sony put out.
