US: Amazon raises Pokemon Pokopia physical price amid reports of stock constraints

Earlier today Amazon raised the pricing of the popular Pokemon Pokopia to $80 amid rising reports of supply constraints. The game has now seemingly sold out on Amazon at that price point, but should hopefully be available at other retailers in the United States. IGN says that numerous retailers in the USA have completely sold out of Pokemon Pokopia boxed copies, despite the game being a controversial Game-Key Card.

    1. I got it day one and been playing it between life responsibilities. I played the last big expansion WOW released a few years ago. I just cannot play that game any longer. It is just not fun anymore and the story and lore are too much to keep up with. I still think Warlords of Draenor was the best expansion they ever did with WOW.

  1. It’s still showing up at $70 for and in stock, just on delayed order. Are you sure this wasn’t a 3rd party seller? Has Amazon or TPC issued an official statement on this? It’s pretty common for 3rd party sellers to hike prices when reselling/when stock runs out. I would think a change as drastic as this, with the implications of a stock shortage, there’d be an official statement of some kind from TPC.

  2. Just took a look around online and at the IGN article, and it seems on their part to be sloppy journalism. They state in the article that Amazon had increased the price of RE Requiem, as well, but that wasn’t the case at all. When an item goes out of stock on Amazon, it defaults to the next available third party seller, and the price changes. Walmart does something similar and, in cases where items are being resold/price hiked, there are listed for more than their MSRP. When checking Amazon on my end, the ‘shipped & sold by Amazon’ listing is still $69.99, as it is on other retailers. For RE Requiem the price listed for the Generations Pack from $150+ for a bit because of a scalper that had a few for sale.

But the $70 is the price it is everywhere else. This seems to be more of an issue of high demand and undershot stock expectation than actual an actual shortage, seeing as they’ll have more copies available for purchase about 2 weeks, per the Amazon listing.

This was certainly a scary headline to wake up to lmao

  3. People do know the GKC is empty right? they cna just get the digital version and is the same and cheaper than this
one thing is for sure, nintendo did what they wanted they will put gen 10 in a GKC well done people

    1. I was about to say… I hope this doesn’t set some sort of precedent where publishers make limited copies of GKC and retailers jack up the price because consumers aren’t informed enough that they can just buy the same thing digitally and the GKC doesn’t actually contain the game on it.

  4. It’s more or less the case for years… They produce fewer physical copies to encourage buying digital, but as here: some like to cry wolf, players prefer to buy physical copies regardless of the price, and retailers take advantage of that…

A well-known and old business strategy: create a sense of scarcity to raise the price and encourage a rush on the product.

It’s because of this (among other things) that scalpers appeared.

  5. You should add an update to the article because it’s very misleading. Some third party sellers are listing it at $80, not Amazon themselves. I’m not defending Amazon by any means, they suck, but this is false information.

  6. Anonymous Skywalker

It’s $70 on Amazon, also checked Walmart, also $70. If the game is $80 it’s likely a 3rd party price.
