Bloomberg: Nintendo to cut Switch 2 production to 4 million this quarter on weaker US sales

Bloomberg is reporting that Nintendo has decided to cut Nintendo Switch 2 production down to 4 million. The Kyoto-based company was previously targeting 6 million units in production this quarter, but weaker than expected sales in the United States has seemingly made them reconsider this. Nintendo has yet to officially confirm this, but Bloomberg has been told by their sources that it will plan an announcement soon.

“This hardware shortfall in its first year, during its big holiday season, is awful news,” said Amir Anvarzadeh, Japan equity strategist at Asymmetric Advisors. “Clearly the software lineup has been poor, at least until most recently with Pokemon showing some hope.”

    1. This happens for every console, the first three months of the year no one buys the console because it’s after the holidays and usually no giant games release. So yes, switch 2 sales have been weaker, but it’s the same with every console, the ps5, xbox series s and x, so every console is selling weak right now. We don’t know the current sales of the switch 2 after pokopia but I could see a increase in sales then all of the other consoles. Also bloomberg isn’t the most reliable source sometimes, here’s a article. https://mynintendonews.com/2025/06/02/nintendo-says-recent-bloomberg-report-is-untrue/

    2. The price is fine especially since the latest update making SW1 games run in boost mode making the price even more justified. The only console that needs a price drop is the PS5 pro or at the very least include the disk drive.

      1. Agree, the ps5 pro for 750$ without the disc slot is just awful, the switch 2 has the most appealing price compared to other consoles.

  1. Im not gonna call the switch 2 a success or a failure anymore, one one hand it looks like a massive success, on the other it looks like it’s not doing so hot. Better keep my mouth shut cause I’m terribly confused lol

    1. You can say it’s doing decent, not good or bad. PS5 surpassing Switch 2 sales in the holiday would also be considered decent, but if it was great, it would sell 4+ million more than Switch 2 that time.

  2. Doesn’t the Bloomberg like lie a lot about Nintendo they also said something similar about the psvr and Sony literally debunked them in a tweet

    1. Yes. In this case their headline is extremely misleading. In the article, Bloomberg admits that Nintendo isn’t adjusting sales expectations at all and this is just due to internal debate on how to manage inventory. So far, Nintendo has been overstocking the console to combat scalpers, but overstocking costs more money because of storage. It looks like they’re just dialing back how much extra stock they have at any given time. There’s a whole science behind inventory management and maximizing profits based on quickly you’re going through inventory.

      1. They didn’t market Bananza like the big new Mario/Zelda game they should’ve. And they leaned to hard on MKW. As it was not received as well as previous entries and all the hype for it died after 2025 ended.

Add on 80 dollars for rehashed games.

Plus, a K shaped economy in the US and higher prices in general turned poorer consumers away.

Switch 1 is still fine for most.

Its not shocking. Its actually very expected.

But… units will fly off shelves for Winds and Waves or new 3D Mario/ 3D Zelda.

        Give ‘er time.

  3. Nintendo needs to do a few thing quickly to ensure this doesn’t become long term stagnation:
    – Lay out a strong plan for the S2 software lineup through early 2027.
    – Keep bundled console SKUs available with major titles to enhanced the perceived hardware value.
    – With boost mode added, prioritize adding a Switch Lite SKU soon, priced at $299.
    – Demonstrate a commitment to releasing additional waves of free upgrades to Switch 1 games, alongside more robust paid upgrades.
    – Be more competitive with their variable pricing model. Make honest assessments of what is being delivered, drop the $80 price point outside of extremely expensive development cycles, and lift the $60 floor to allow $40 puzzle games, $50 platformers, $60 Mario sports titles, etc.
    – Bring back Nintendo Selects to provide additional value for those jumping in past launch year. This gives them an out to adjust variable pricing miscalculations.
    – Encourage 3rd party publishers to use real carts when feasible. Allow installing from the cartridge for games that require faster loading speeds.
    – Enhance the user experience with long requested UI updates like folders and themes.

When the next Gen of consoles launches (pushing hardware requirements for big titles even higher), consider releasing a “Switch box” that gives an even better docked experience, bundled with a Pro controller, at a reasonable price point.

  4. It’s overpriced, the games are overpriced and they are selling 9 year old software with a 4k upgrade for $100+. Nothing new on the horizon other than DLC slapped overpriced content and ports.

  5. The headline of the original article is very misleading and MyNintendoNews isn’t reporting on in super well either. Bloomberg’s article clearly states that Nintendo is NOT adjusting their sales projections AT ALL. Everyone, even analysts, believe Nintendo is still going to reach their target of 19 million before the end of the fiscal year. So what’s the deal then? Well, according to Bloomberg themselves, there is debate within Nintendo on whether or not oversupplying the console is a good thing because storage costs money. This is NOT a matter of Nintendo adjusting their sales expectations, but rather, it’s a change in how they are managing their inventory.

I still heavily disprove of the seventy dollar and higher price range for games. The only reason they are that price is because greed and the fact that they are getting away with it. So far I have only really felt scammed since I bought the Switch 2 at launch. I don’t buy Key Cards, bought but didn’t like Kart World, Went back to playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the same week I got World, Donkey Kong was alright due but not a reason for me to buy the console, Prime 4 I got the Original Switch Version due to the box art, and any Key Card Games I buy the Switch Versions of and if there isn’t a Switch Version I don’t buy it at all. My worst fear is The Switch 2 will be a WiiU situation where Nintendo gives up on it and moves development of games the console would have got to the next console. I bought every single Nintendo console and handheld except for the WiiU because I knew it was going to fail and I was right. I bought a Switch 2 thinking it’d be the same success as the original Switch. 3rd party wise the console is a failure already for me due to key cards, first party games, We’ll have to see, but I already dislike Mario Kart World snd thats a huge blow for me because I loved every other Mario Kart and have thousands of hours in them all. The Open World with the P-Switches was the only lart in World I liked, but when I don’t like the Main Racing mode in a racing game, thats not good. Unrelated, gave Echos if Wisdom a 2nd chanch. I’m liking it a pretty great amount.

    1. The fact that people like you are still comparing the Switch 2 to the WiiU is insane to me. The Switch 2 has outsold the WiiU before the Switch 2 is even a year old. It’s already about to pass the GameCube numbers. It’s Nintendo’s best selling console ever for crying out loud. Even if the sales “slow down” and it never reaches the sales numbers of the Switch 1, it would have to take something DRASTIC for the Switch 2 to actually fail.

  7. Please do more research with news like this. You say “The Kyoto-based company was previously targeting 6 million sales this quarter, but weaker than expected sales in the United States has made them reconsider this”, but that is not true at all. Inventory/manufacturing adjustments are not necessarily an adjustment in sales expectations. Bloomberg’s article clearly states that no sales expectations are being changed and this is a shift in inventory management.

  8. People like you, People like Uniton get triggered and think that every opinion that isn’t agreeing with what they think are wrong or stupid. Classic Case of being a Nintendrone or as another here put it, being an iron boot licker

  9. High sells doesn’t always equate to a great product. Game-Key suck and for many and destroyed the value of owning the console completely and I agree that Mario Kart World is a majorly flawed game and I don’t care for it either. Even if it was good, most first party Switch 2 games so far if not all were originally intended to be on the first switch but purposely held back to release on the Switch 2. I don’t know what kind of gamer you are but the Switch 2 isnt the hype machine that you think that it is. Bad products for consumers sell all the time, look at the modern trash fire, oh wait, I mean Pokemon. Even if you went all digital on the console, the built in storage is horrible, micro express SD cards aren’t reliable and are overpriced. If you are somebody like me, you’d need at least 2TB of storage if you want completely digital and most aren’t willing to bite the bullet for what that costs, especially since SD cards can go bad and stop working at random.

The Salt is real. The classic “You won’t reply back because” The telltale sign of a triggered moron.

      1. Friendly Neighborhood Gamer

Have you ever consider the “Because you are a moron” and that are clearly baiting for attention that you clearly lack in real life?

        1. So how was what I said wrong…? I basically said the same thing. That he had nothing substantial and was just baiting. I don’t get why you’re getting mad at me for the him being a rage-baiting troll.

          1. Friendly Neighborhood Gamer

The only baiter I see is you, and I bet you’d love for somebody to be mad at you. Keep replying though and enjoy having conversations with yourself or if more people do end up replying to you, knowing that the only reason they are giving you attention is due to you baiting, and not because of any actual meaningful human interaction. 🤡

            Really, go make dome friends.

  11. Friendly Neighborhood Gamer

I wouldn’t reply back to you either. You are a moron seeking attention and validation because your life is clearly very sad and lacking. The way you added lol at the end of your sentence shows how pathetic you are. You hide your hand very poorly champ, you already revealed in the way that you type and reply what sad, most likey lonely, definitely miserable, sad excuse of life you are. Go outside, make some friends, probably go on a diet, watch or read. something educational, definitely work on your social skills. I’m not trying to be mean, I’m being real with you.

  12. I bought a Switch 2 in December and have really enjoyed it. I’m not really sure why some people really hate it or want it to fail. It’s an improvement over the Switch in every way and has been getting better what with the latest system update.

As far as sales, it’s probably the lack of killer software. MKW and Bananza were very fun imo but it seems live everything else has been Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, which is very boring. I’m sure Pokopia will boost sales a bit but Nintendo really needs to announce and release that big Nintendo Switch 2 game like a Zelda or Mario or Animal Crossing

    1. Adding a campaign mode to MKW as DLC and going forward would reignite interest, they’re screwing up on content.. They did it again with Mario Tennis too.
