Miyamoto has banned Illumination CEO from making any dirty jokes in Mario movies

The legendary video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto has been making the rounds on Japanese media to promote The Super Mario Galaxy Movie which launched later in Japan than the rest of the world. One of the things Mr. Miyamoto has jokingly told press is that he has banned the team at Illumination, especially Chris Meledandri, from incorporating any dirty jokes in the Mario movies as he knows they have a few that they would love to add in. However, he says that doesn’t mean that Wario won’t make a special appearance in the future. Here’s what he said via machine translation.

The Mario series is very popular with both adults and children, but could you tell us what you both value when creating works for children? Miyamoto

“I think of children as adults, they just don’t have as much knowledge yet. So I don’t want to make them laugh with dirty jokes, and I’ve even given Chris a ban on dirty jokes (laughs). Oh, that doesn’t mean Wario won’t appear, though? Action is something that both adults and children can understand equally, so I think that if we make a film centered on action, we can make a film that won’t be boring.”

  1. It is funny to think of Nintendo yelling at Illumination every time they try adding a fart joke the script lmao

Wario I feel like might be the one exception to this rule lol. Though I think it’d be awesome to see him just be greedy and eat garlic all the time without farting/bad breath jokes lol. Like just letting him be all belligerent and rude and greedy lol

    1. (suggestion: be polite and considerate (one more suggestion: this Biblical verse: “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” – Ephesians 4:29, New Living Translation version))

      1. To be fair, that wasn’t actually made by Nintendo. All Mario RPGs and spinoffs are made by outside companies. Only spinoff Nintendo makes in-house is Mario Kart.

    1. Maybe not a dirty joke, per se, but I’m guessing you’re not familiar with Waluigi’s celebration animation from Strikers Charged. I have no idea how THAT got into a Mario game.

    2. You should look into the Japanese Wario land manuals. Dude talks about straight up crapping his pants. On top of all the off best stuff from like Wario ware

  2. Awesome. Cuz with all of the grooming and post Epstein files, we need to protect the kids. Bravo Miyamoto-san!

      1. The files show how sick and twisted Hollyweird and the studios are. Dirty jokes in a mario movie? There’s tons of subliminal creepy messages in a lot of kids movies and shows. Nickelodeon etc. So let’s hope illumination keeps away from that.

    1. Weird quote “I don’t want to make kids laugh with dirty jokes” what? You don’t want to make kids laugh? The core of youth comedy is dirty jokes or fart jokes like what are you talking about. South Park came out when I was in 4th grade and we all loved it.

    1. I don’t think dirty jokes makes movies better unless the entire point of it is to be crude (Like adult animation shows)
