Toad’s voice actor, Keegan-Michael Key, has revealed in a new interview that Nintendo and Illumination are looking to release the third Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2029. This echoes Bowser voice actor, Jack Black’s, recent comments about the release window for the new movie. Keegan-Michael Key said that the team “want to get it right” and promises that it will be “worth the wait.”
“We want to get it right. We want to get everything right. We want to get all the details right. And Michael and Aaron, who are our directors, have a real passion for this. I think they’re as passionate about these projects as the audience is. And so we got to get it right, we got to get it right. So I apologize. But it’ll be worth the wait. It’ll be worth the wait…’29 is better than sometime, right?”
Thanks to Edward B for sending in the news tip!

Not much to complain about here. I like the feel of recent video game movie adaptations where there is a sense of familiarity compared to before. Video game stigma held back production of these movies, and now we can have movies created by people who can closely understand the lore of these games.
I love the movies but all I want is more Mario and less Princess Peach
Jack Black was right.
Give me Wario or I will boycott!
I really hope they put more focus on the storytelling next time. The first two really miss the mark there.
By then it will flop. Interest in going to these dump theaters is going away the boomers are slowly losing interest and kids aging they don’t want to go.
Hasn’t Mario been relevant for over 40 years? There is a higher chance that I will grow wings made out of jelly beans then the third movie flipping.
To get it right? I would say it is too late for that with OP girlboss Peach. Why was Mario in the movie anyway when Peach can handle anything by herself?
This is why Hollywood needs to end.
