Crimson Desert developer trying to get game to run on Nintendo Switch 2

Pearl Abyss, the developer’s behind Crimson Desert, have revealed in an investors question and answer session that they have been attempting to get Crimson Desert up and running on the Nintendo Switch 2. The company CEO said that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game requires optimisation and technical verification and it has to be up to standard. Here’s what the CEO told investors:

You mentioned platform expansion for Crimson Desert. What is the possibility of a Nintendo Switch 2 version?

CEO Heo Jin-young = We believe it is important to showcase Crimson Desert on as many platforms as possible. We are reviewing the Nintendo Switch 2, and it is currently being developed to a level where basic gameplay is possible. However, platform expansion is not just a simple port; the key is whether we can fully maintain the graphics, action, and open-world experience of Crimson Desert on that device. The Switch 2 version still requires optimization and technical verification, and we must also review partner collaboration and whether it meets our quality standards. Therefore, it is difficult to confirm a release schedule. We will announce it transparently once there is confirmed information.

  1. Too many developers just are not optimizing their games at all.
You wouldn’t believe how many recent triple A games, including their dlc/expansions, can actually fit on that 60+gb switch cartridge if developers actually optimized their games.
One of the major issues comes from developers leaving duplicated data and other useless asset data that isn’t even being used in within their finished games.
    Take Bloodborne for example.
That game had some much unused data in the finished product that the game was almost triple the size if Fromsoftware had optimized that game.
It probably would gave actually run better if Fromsoftware actually optimized it as well.
Majority of the time publishers don’t give them the time to optimized, but in many cases, like majority studios owned and now shutdown or being shutdown by Microsoft, they were just extremely lazy and refused to optimize their games (I’m looking at you Bethesda)🤨
