Playtonic‘s upcoming Super Mario Kart-inspired Super Yooka-Laylee Kart has real potential and today the company has given fans a closer look at that all-important Time Trial mode. Ghost from your last run make an appearance, so you can see where you can really shave time off of your run. You have four Boost items which you’ll need to use at the appropriate time to really nail your lap. Check out the new footage from Time Trials down below.

Alright, I’m just going to say it: This was not a good idea. It’s like if an indie studio wanted to make an homage of Super Mario Bros but modelled it after SMB1.
And that’s not a diss to Super Mario Kart. Had it as a kid. Played it a lot. Loved it. Got it’s boxart hanging on my wall. But it was the first step in the series.
And, I have to mention the obvious here, Playtonic is made of ex-Rare guys who tried to make a new Banjo-Kazooie. How in the world did they not just try and make a new Diddy Kong Racing?? “No, let’s do Super Mario Kart instead.” I’m sorry… I just… I can’t.
That’s funny, I also have the box art to super Mario kart on my wall. I found it at a hobby lobby for 10$.

not a fan of mario kart snes at all.
This would’ve been an acceptable game if the courses weren’t flat and it had some kind of story mode.
I really don’t get this game. They should’ve made a Diddy Kong Racing successor. Instead they’ve made a game that’s basically the same thing that everyone else keeps doing.
A DKR style game would’ve been really fresh vs the stale Mario Kart games that keep getting rehashed.
I am always confused on why people think Mario kart rehashes the same thing. Like there is a reason to replay each game. Each offers something unique compared to each other. I still go back to Mario kart Wii so often with how crazy and hectic it is.
Yes this looks awesome. I like that they call it a Kart racer and are sticking to karts. Played so much Mario Kart SNES and GBA, will be cool to see that style but with modern game design and new engines.
