ZDNET Korea: Samsung strives to supply OLED for Nintendo Switch 2, could begin end of year

It looks as though Nintendo is planning to debut an OLED Nintendo Switch 2 console sooner than expected as ZDNET Korea is reporting that Samsung is gearing up to provide OLED displays for the device. The source says that while it’s not been fully agreed upon yet, product development of the new Nintendo Switch 2 OLED unit could begin as early as at the end of the year. However, this is all dependant on how much of a price increase this would mean as Nintendo is aiming to lower their manufacturing costs in the midst of the component war. Here’s what was said via machine translation:

“If the release of the Switch 2 OLED model is decided, there is a possibility that product development will begin at the end of this year. If development starts at the end of this year, mass production can be expected as early as the end of 2027 or the beginning of 2028.”

  1. I’m not sure if I’d jump the gun and go straight to an Oled switch 2 like I did with the original switch to the Oled one, probably because it’ll be quite expensive and the switch 2 is already pretty decent.
A switch 2 lite on the hand il snap up straight away.
I would love an ocarina of time edition Oled switch 2 lite.. yes please!

    1. I’d imagine the Switch 2 Lite being the same price we currently have before the increase, and the Switch 2 OLED being $50 more just like the Switch 1 OLED. It seems there is no news of a Switch 2 Lite, but I think it’s reasonable to expect one since Switch 1 did the same.

    2. Anonymous Skywalker

I’ll wait and see if this is true and if it is I’ll have to wait on the price. I’ll probably buy one regardless.

  2. Dam, I think it’s way early for a premium model. The only thing it really needs is the screen and more storage. Seems like they could do more if they hade a few years. Especially since we have such high prices in gaming right now. Let’s the Ai bubble crash, let’s ram and gpu prices normaliz. Lol wait for trump to leave office so the global markets can stabilize 🤷

    1. I like your points, but its not trump. It’s a global agenda playing out before our eyes.
Whoevers in, is a puppet of the global cult.
      New World Order.
AI data centers are mass surveillance centers.and must be stopped.

    2. Too early?

Switch lite came out in Sep 2019, and switch OLED in Oct 2021. That is two years and 4 years after og switch respectively.

If this piece of news ends up being true then 2028 for switch 2 OLED doesn’t sound too far fetched.

  3. Tracks from Mario Paint, New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Super Mario Maker have been added to Mario Kart World’s Free Roam on the Nintendo Music app this evening!

  4. For those of you that are on the fence. S2 is a great machine, but my advice is wait to see what the next iteration is. Couple of things –
    a) Battery life is awful
    b) After playing Starfox, I really can see the limitations on the display. Really grainy and just looks unfocused.

  5. Switch 2 is a Great Machine but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is Objectively better than world. I spent basically over a thousand hours 8n every Mario Kart game except for World. Played it the first few days I got it but jever again after, went back to 8 Deluxe .

Switch w is a Great Machine until you realize that 99% of developers no longer are releasing physical copies of games on the Console. If you keep supporting Code in the box that requires a full Internet download and a fake cartridge aka a Key Card to be on the Console, they’ll never go back because you sre still giving them all of your money. If you Keep buying Key Cards and Digital only. Nintendo will 100% abandon all physical media with no chanch of going back.
