The once giant UK video game retailer GAME has now collapsed into administration owing a staggering £16 million. The company once had 300 stores across the UK and was a popular destination to pick up and browse the latest video games before online retailers swooped in.
“The Game brand was originally established in 1990 and developed into the UK’s leading high street retailer of video games and consoles.
“The company started trading in 2012 following the acquisition of the UK trade and assets of the former The Game Group Plc out of administration.
“At the point of acquisition, the business operated over 300 retail stores together with two e-commerce platforms under the Game and Gamestation brand names.
“Following the completion of the acquisition, the company consolidated its operations under the single Game brand and undertook a financial and operational review, which resulted in the closure of certain loss-making stores but included plans to open new stores.”

What is Nintendo without game? :,(
Don’t worry, Argos has you 😂
Good. Was a stupid idea closing all the stores and putting them in the back of sports directs. Only had a tiny area in each with barely any stock.
It’s sad but dedicated game stores like Game are a thing of the past. The only type that seems to survive are exchange places like basically CEX and that’s it. Otherwise, you just have to think, the high street is dwindling, physical games are dwindling, and insofar as physical is still a thing most people just buy off Amazon.
Lets report the actual news here shall we…
This is by design, when Fraser group aquired Game, they decimated it. Stripped out actual video games and replaced with board games and lego. Removed loyalty schemes and stopped trade in and preowned immediately. Shut 100’s of bricks and mortar stores and then installed concessions in Sports Direct, usually in a far corner with no dedicated knowledgeable staff. They had no video games. I believe there was insider knowledge on the digital switch from PlayStation and made plans to wind it all down. I implore journalists to report ethically and honestly. This report feels taken directly from a press release.
Sad, because games used to be a very well-known sign of the UK’s game-buying culture. It’s nostalgic because it makes people think of the good old days when they liked to look around stores, touch game boxes, and look at game covers granny. A little sad, because this failure shows how hard it is for traditional stores to stay open when people shop online instead.
It’s sad to hear that. If you want to have some fun. You can play Pizza Edition Games online.
