Pokemon X account was temporarily hacked and promotes Memecoin

the official pokemon logo

It seems no-one is safe from hackers as the official Pokemon X account was temporarily hacked and was advertising memecoin ahead of the Pokemon World Championships. The Pokemon Company quickly regained control of the account and a screenshot has been saved of the proceedings. The Pokemon Company has apologised to fans and said on X that the posts promoting crypto “were not created or approved by Pokémon and have been removed.”

Statement

The @Pokemon handle on X was temporarily compromised earlier for ~30 minutes.

We’re aware that our X account was accessed without authorization and used to publish posts promoting a cryptocurrency.

Those posts were not created or approved by Pokémon and have been removed. We’re sorry for the confusion and appreciate your patience.

  1. “Pokémon X account” certainly confused me given Pokémon X is a game haha. Add it to the very long list of why we shouldn’t name our social media sites after letters.

Hope no one fell for that scam anyway, they put some effort in trying to make it seem like it could plausibly be a Pokémon Twitter post. But still, surely you can’t fall for it.
