The next generation console from Xbox, Project Helix, is expected to release late 2027 or early 2028 and the head of Xbox Asha Sharma has said that it will be a family of systems and has now hinted that one edition will allow for portable play on the go. Both Sony and Microsoft are now looking to combat the success of the Nintendo Switch 2 with handheld versions of the PlayStation 6 and Xbox Helix. Whether they will see success with these against the affordable Nintendo Switch 2 remains to be seen.
“We are moving to a family of devices for Gen-10. There is not one device that fits all. We will certainly have a great console first, but we also know that many players will be on the go. There are some things that we are the best in the world to manufacture, and there are other things that will we partner on. So, we will be sharing more about that as our plans develop. The operating system is starting to look really good. We’re very excited about this.”

She is a massive gas-lighter but to be fair she is only doing the best she can after Phil Spencer’s profligacy. Xbox is finished in the console space, whatever this turns out to be it will be their Dreamcast, but almost certainly not as cool as that was.
If Xbox intergrates with steam, this has potential. But I don’t get the point of a handheld, just get a Rog Ally or switch 2. Heck, Xbox made an official Rog ally handheld.
What’s the point of integrating with Steam if Valve already has Steam Deck?
For Valve it wouldn’t make sense whatsoever.
Apparently this new console is supposed to have some PC stuff built into it, Maybe they Xbox could think ahead before people just turn it into another steam machine. It’s probaly not likely, but if steam is even going to be playable on the new Xbox, I would just buy my games there.
I wish they released a service for PC and other devices that allowed old games to be playable. I really want to play old Xbox, 360 and One games that are delisted or not available anymore.
I’m still curious about the price of these “future” iterations of their consoles… between the skyrocketing component costs and the handheld mode which inevitably requires compromises, I find it hard to believe they’ll offer similar power to their future home consoles at an affordable price…
You just have to look at the price of the ROG Ally, which isn’t even comparable to home consoles or laptops in terms of power…
