Minecraft Switch 2 upgrade is free for limited time if you own digital Minecraft for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo has clarified that if you own the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft digitally then you are entitled to the Nintendo Switch 2 version for free for a limited time. You have until 31st January, 2027 to claim the free upgrade and then presumably it will be a paid affair. If you don’t own the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft then pre-orders for the game are available now on the Nintendo eShop.

  1. I actually joined the Beta and I played it for about 6 hours and it ran very well. But there weren’t joy con mouse controls sadly. I did submit some feedback about that and I hope they do add the joy con mouse controls.

  2. Great! I have the physical cart and no upgrade path for it at all. Oh well! Something tells me that the upgrade to Switch 2 will be very minimal no hardly noticeable. That is how it has been with PS5 and XBOX Series X and S. I paid to upgrade to the PS5 version from a PS4 copy I had already purchased on so many games only to see that they were not much of an upgrade at all. This is going to be more like that. At least i get the updates coming for the gmae itself. Cannot wait to play below the ice biome in the ice caverns.

    1. eh only thing the Switch 2 edition will get is Vibrant Visuals (which was an graphical overhaul that released for everyone last year; Optional setting of course), larger chunk render distance and higher res. idk about fps though.

  3. That is plenty of time to get it even if you don’t own the Switch 1 version, get it now to claim the free Switch 2 version.

    1. The price is the same either way, and there’s no sale currently going on. No need to hurry and buy it unless you’re just really excited for the updated release
