Shigeru Miyamoto has confessed that a new addition to the Zelda franchise is in development for the Nintendo Wii.
Speaking at Nintendo’s E3′s round table discussion, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed to developers and journalists that a version of Zelda is in the works for the Nintendo Wii. Unfortunately Miyamoto decided to hold back from announcing it at Nintendo’s press conference yesterday, instead he treated round table journalists to a single oil painted image of Link which is pivotal to the storyline.
To be honest with you, I really wanted to announce a Zelda game for Wii at this E3. But rather than think about something to bring you to show you, we really wanted to focus on actual game development,” he said. “However I didn’t want to come empty handed, so I did bring the next illustration for the next Zelda title. We’d like to make it compatible with Wii MotionPlus. It’s quite possible it will be playable only with Wii MotionPlus. I would like to say we hope to bring it to you next year. It may take a little longer.

Sounds like it’s still early in development. That’s probably a good thing, despite how long it will take to come out. Twilight Princess was just about the peak of the traditional Zelda experience. Time to move on.
TP was (in terms of basic plot and layout) a remake of OoT plus a bunch of new elements. I believe in an older interview with Miyamoto, he stated that this Zelda (the unnamed Wii one in development) has been in development since before TP was announced at E3. I hope it’s good o_o
I think with that development time scale it should be something exceptionally special. Wish we were given a sneak peak…
Me too, but Miyamoto said it was better to spend the time testing out gameplay methods and dungeon layouts than preparing a video or demo for E3. I guess it’s for the best.
