Nintendo Wii 2: Shigeru Miyamoto Talks About The Nintendo Wii 2 (Project Cafe)

Legendary games developer Shigeru Miyamoto has addressed the plethora of rumours floating around the Internet regarding Nintendo’s successor to the Wii which is currently being referred to as Project Cafe.

“Don’t ask! Even when the Wii launched we were developing new hardware, work on 3DS had already started. It’s a matter of when we announce it.”

“Yes, I have read rumours about Café. I want to say it’s normal. You know, for Nintendo, as with the other platform holders, our job is to create new hardware.

“We think it takes five years to do interesting R&D. So, I confess there isn’t smoke without fire. We always build consoles. You’ll never see some of them.

“But you don’t have to trust all the stuff you read.”

    1. exactly, if Nintendo spilled the beans, we’d basically see the same thing happen with Microsoft and Sony, only it would be bettter, well even if they keep this a secret till E3, Microsoft and Sony will still come out with somethin better regardless, example Nintendo implemented motion control for the Wii, Sony and Microsoft followed suit with Kinect (which was supposed to go to Nintendo originally) and the Move (which was basically just a copy of the Wii Remote) well Sony was supposedly workin on the Move since Playstation 2, but they didn’t implement it till like a year ago

      1. The thing is when Microsoft and Sony created Kinect and Move, they were a little too late anyway with the idea since Nintendo created motion gaming.

I heard many people saying “Why bother buying Kinect/Move if I already have a Wii?”

          1. I think that his point is that they DIDN’T get the new tech because the particular market that ‘casual’ gaming is focused upon doesnt care about tech

      1. Why? He can read the rumours just as we can. He can refer to the rumour “project café” without saying it is true.

  1. Wow. Mysterious. One of the greatest moments of my life was when i got to stand next to a picture of Mario drawn by shigeru miyamoto. I almost started hyperventilating at the mere thought that he actually touched this. I hid it well in the picture which i use on twitter. This guy can guy what he wants he’s still the closest thing i have to a god. Go go miyamoto.

  2. This is basically what I expected. I wouldn’t have put it past Nintendo to R&D almost everything rumoured thus far plus more, but whether any of it makes it into a final console, or indeed THIS one, remains to be seen.

  3. I’m on the fence about Café’s validity now. With the 3DS rumors, they announced the product soon after the rumors. If they are keeping it hush, either there is still something secret they have, or it is just another rumor.

    1. it’s good that he has at least commented about it. and since e3 is less than 2 months away, there’d be no point in confirming the rumors now when, and if, they let the cat out at e3 :) I’m just stoked about a nin console that “may” have hd graphics, not since the n64 and gamecube has there been a consideral jump in graphics power, well, the 3ds just did that too :D

  4. It’s BASICALLY CONFIRMED NOW. Look who commented on it, Shigeru Miyamoto. They could of easily had Reggie say some cheap fake-ness or some cheesy press release like usual but they didn’t. They put the head man front and center.
